How did you choose your home resort?

My contract was set to close today! So I was originally at SSR, I have to say that is the one I have never stayed at. I wanted more points already, so I was able to stop the contract and buy 320 in points at AKV!! I just love this resort, and everyone says to buy where you like to stay, so I did!!

so now I can do a studio a few times a year and Hawaii maybe every other year!! Unless I get points in Hawaii!

Easy decision for us, there was only one in 1992. Never regretted owning at OKW.

Now it's definately a hard choice, when we bought, we only had OKW, BW,VB and HH, we almost went for VB because the dues were the cheapest then and decided to choose OKW in the end because we loved the size of the units.

We had been going to Disney yearly since 1998. Originally stayed at All-Star resorts, then two years ago stayed at BLT on cash ressies (decided to treat ourselves to a dream as Canadian dollar exchange was pretty good). Really, really enjoyed ourselves, MK view studio, that we did it again this past Christmas!! Came back home and decided that we now spoiled ourselves and must buy DVC to be able to continue to live the dream:cloud9: We bought 2 contracts resale just before the deadline and are looking so forward to our December trip as DVC owners :cool1: We never stayed at any other resorts because we love magic kingdom and love feeling the hustle and bustle of Disney. We go to the beach for our quiet time.

For us, locking in at an even exchange rate was a deciding factor. Not only locking in current prices but equal exchange rate. Should the CDN dollar keep going up MF will be less painful. If it goes back down, well, we are used to that

BLT:
For us it was location. Being on the monorail and within walking distance to the MK was what did it for us. We've stayed at AKV once, and we're going to stay at AKV again this fall for a couple of days, but being so close is what did it for us.

AUL:
It was an easy enough choice. :-) Only DVC resort in Hawaii.

We considered cost of the contract and MF. Then we also thought we really loved the vibe of OKW and the lush mature landscaping. It is also centrally located.

I added on a very small contract at SSR just because I needed a little more points each year and got tired of borrowing.

That all being said we have stayed the past two years at BCV because of the location and pool. We are just happy to be members of the DVC community and be able to get to Disney more often.

You'll hear the expression "buy where you want to stay" on the DIS a lot. That expression is the reason why I bought BWV. Epcot is my favorite park, so I wanted to be within walking distance to it. I love the theming of BWV, so between those two factors, BWV was the easy choice. Could I have bought somewhere else cheaper? Sure. But I wouldn't have been happy, and I didn't want to risk not being able to get in to BWV at 7 months.

Combination of where we wanted to stay and maintenance fees. We bought at BLT. BWV at the time was the only available resort. The Internet wasn't quite as prevalent back then.

We love the proximity to Magic Kingdom, the monorail, the ability to use the MK bus stops tonget to other resorts for dining, etc.

Location for us as well. We had been thinking about it for a couple years but once BLT was announced we knew that was it.

It was simple, No brainer…BCV was the one being built at the time although BWV had units available it seamed that the Beach Club was a well fit for us. If all the current facilities were available, we would still make the same decision.
:goodvibes

We had rented points for a couple years before we bought. Having stayed at BWV and OKW and liking both of them for their own reasons, when we were ready to buy, they were selling SSR, but we knew we wanted to own at the BWV. I can still remember the day our guide called and said we have BWV points available. I couldn't get my credit card out fast enough:). Since then, we bought BLT a couple years ago to get the free cruise and stayed there for the first time this past March. While we enjoyed our stay, BWV is still home. I imagine, at some point in the future selling our BLT and buying more BWV. While the dues are higher there, we just LOVE that location and the walkability to two parks and numberous restaurants and bars.

We looked at DVC for a few years, SSR was being built, but we are a family of 5 - so we passed because the points for a 2 Bdrm are double the points for a 1 Bdrm, and although we usually stayed deluxe or occasionally moderate (PORS) we couldn't justify the cost of a 2 Bdrm. Then comes AKV, I kept telling DH, no, no, but he signed us up for a tour anyway - he said it wouldn't hurt to just look at the models. We walked away with our first contract, because a 1-Bdrm slept 5 and I love dark woods and the theming. The funny thing is we've since added on at SSR (for the THV - got a great price on those points, ) AND the last few DVC trips we have taken, we've stayed in 2Bdrms!!! (our original reason for not buying in years ago! :rotfl2:)

I bought AKV based on the point chart. I loved the option of saving points for a value villa or splurging on concierge! I also liked the developer points we got too for SSR in 2008. It allowed me to bank my first year of AKV points which was awesome.

We added on at SSR because 1. we LOVE the resort and 2. thought the price was right!

We LOVE animals and we LOVE AKV! Having visited the resort before they added DVC there, we were just in awe of the whole place - it was beautiful and had such a warm welcoming vibe. There was no AKV DVC when we took our tour. But a year later when we were ready to buy in, we were over the moon to find out that there was an AKV DVC to buy into. We knew immediately that it was the place for us! :thumbsup2

We've since stayed there several times on our points with different views each time. Two of those times were in value studios, which are SUCH a great deal!
