How Did We Eat So Much?! Lots of Pics + DxDDP + DCL! *UPDATES 7/12*

I'm finally caught up!

I need to go read your TR to see what was up with thug Pluto at 'Ohana. I don't see smiles and rainbows in my reading future with that one. Pretty much the only thing I like there is the Mickey waffles and eggs. All the other items are just ok.

I'm with you for BoG. I really won't miss it if I didn't return. We've been a couple times and the last time was so mediocre that I'm ready for a looong break. I wasn't a fan of the French onion soup but I do love their cupcakes. Your DD was adorable in her Belle outfit with the Beast.

Ahh Mama Melrose, I haven't been there in a few years and forgot how much I like their chicken parm.

I'm glad you had a great dinner at Jiko. It is one of my favorites and we've not been disappointed with either of our meals. I look forward to returning next Spring.

Ok, I think I'm caught up.

Have a great day!

Hi.... I am so happy to have found your DR, my dd and I will be doing the DxDDP this coming August on our trip and I have several of the same places on our list and I had no idea you could get the large bottles of sparkling water on the plan I am so glad I know that info now so thank you :goodvibes.... I am sorry to hear your BOG was not great, we ate there this past August also as my dd's birthday dinner choice while the food was just ok we had great service and I had ordered a speciality cake to celebrate and it came out amazing.

Great Reveiws!!Your experience at MM was totally different to my last one there !! The drinks at Victoria Falls looked refreshing. I loved your DD 's dessert at Jiko !!!

I've been following your report and remember you posting about the "thug" Pluto at Ohana. Just thought I would let you know that I believe that he is still at Ohana:rotfl:
Oh no!!! I really was hoping that there was some kind of Pluto emergency, and that he wasn't a "real Pluto."

We had breakfast there last week and all of the characters were great - except Pluto. He was basically going to wave us off until I stood up and motioned that I wanted a photo. It was very busy, but 1 photo only takes a second! He took the photo quickly and left. He made rounds fairly quickly at each table- except one table that had a dog there. NO idea how the dog was there considering it wasn't a service dog. It was dressed in a little costume with no indication of it being a service animal. Pluto stayed at that table and played with the dog for at least 5 minutes and took numerous photos with the family. I could hear the father at the table behind us discussing it with his wife and he was very angry that Pluto didn't seem to have the time of day for his kids but took up so much time with the dog. Needless to say, Pluto and the food poisoning ruined Ohana for us- which is sad since it was one of our traditions.
How strange! I have to say I would have been surprised to see Thug Pluto even be nice to a dog.

I'm so sorry that you had such an unpleasant 'Ohana experience. :( Getting sick on vacation is the worst!!!

I'm finally caught up!
Welcome back, Brenda! I hope you had a great trip. :woohoo:

Thug Pluto was definitely our weirdest character experience ever!

I wish I would have had an appetite to try some of the other foods at 'Ohana. Certainly everything looked good. But I just couldn't do it!

It's so disappointing, isn't it? It would be so EASY for them to make it a great dining experience. They wouldn't even have to have great food - just decent food and service, and I would rave about it because of the surroundings and the Beast (we love the Beast!).

Thanks - she has a great love for the Beast. :lovestruc

MM was a very nice surprise. I didn't expect much at all, and we had a great meal!

I'm glad you had a great dinner at Jiko. It is one of my favorites and we've not been disappointed with either of our meals. I look forward to returning next Spring.
I'm glad you enjoy Jiko too. I was very impressed - good food, good service, good atmosphere. Thank you, Disney! :thumbsup2

Ok, I think I'm caught up.

Have a great day!
You too!

Welcome! How exciting that y'all will be doing the DxDDP next year too. It's so much fun!

I hope that they continue to offer the large bottles of sparkling water - it was so nice to have after being out in the August heat.

I'm so glad that you had a nice time at BoG. I really prefer to hear of good experiences there. It should be an amazing place to dine!

Love the reviews!
Thank you so much!!!

Thanks! Oh, I hope you didn't have a terrible experience at MM. I really wasn't expecting much at all, so having such a nice lunch there was a great surprise.

We really loved the drinks and atmosphere at Victoria Falls. So relaxing and pleasant.

I thought that Jiko was dessert was adorable!!!

I've been following along for a while and I'm all caught up!! All of your posts have made me really excited to be back in WDW in 8 days!! I've missed my other home away from home! :)

Thanks so much for following along! 8 days!!!!! You must be so excited. As I look out at the freezing fog, I am pretty darn jealous….. ;)

I enjoyed your review of Victoria Falls and Jiko. We are staying at AKL and I made a reservation for Jiko. It will be our first visit to Jiko. It was nice to read info about this restaurant. Almost every review I have read about Jiko has been positive and has been given high regards. .

Oh, I hope you enjoy Jiko as much as we did! It was a great signature choice. And staying right there at AKL, it will be perfect!

Cape May Cafe Breakfast

For our last full day at WDW, we decided to try Cape May Cafe for breakfast for the first time. This restaurant is located at the Beach Club and features Minnie, Donald, and Goofy. It is a buffet-style meal.

We had an 8:00AM ADR and arrived at about 7:40. We were seated by 7:45, which was very nice. We did not feel hurried at all here, but we were able to eat and interact with all of the characters (a couple of them twice) and be back out the door by 8:30. That was perfect for getting to a park bright and early! It was very uncrowded here this morning, which was also nice as we had had about enough of the crowds at this point!

Cape May sports a very beachy theme.

Our server here was good - we didn’t need much from her. The chef here was the only buffet chef we met who did not walk the buffet with us - instead, she just told me what I could and could not eat. She did say she would bring me some gluten-free Mickey waffles, but she never did. :confused3 I wasn’t terribly hungry, so it wasn’t a big deal. However, I would assume from this that one COULD get such waffles here if one so desired.

Over all, the food here was fine. It was standard breakfast fare - nothing exciting, but nothing bad either. Here are a few plate pics for you. Obviously, neither one of us was terribly hungry, so I’m afraid we don’t have a lot of food pics to share.

DD’s plate - breakfast potatoes, bacon, eggs, chocolate chip muffin:

DD was pretty excited that she could get whipped cream and chocolate chips on her Mickey waffle here!

My plate - bacon, some kind of egg dish, and breakfast potatoes. I really wasn’t in the mood to eat this morning, so I can’t really give a fair review of the food itself here.

The character interaction here was great!

We really had a great time here. I think this is a great breakfast option if you are staying at one of the Epcot resorts. I can see us having breakfast here again and enjoying a resort day afterward. It is a fun place, and I think I would have enjoyed the food more had we dined a little later in the morning. ;)

How fantastic that Jiko had a separate Gluten free menu, that's definitely great service for you!

Cute photos from Cape May :)

So sorry your BOG dinner was disappointing! That is really rude and inexcusable service. I've had dinner there twice now and loved it both times. It's probably my favorite Disney restaurant now. But from reviews I've read it seems like they can have really good days and really bad days. On the other hand, if other people don't like it then hopefully that will just mean that it will be easier to for me to make an ADR! ;)

Mmm, your pasta looks incredible. I wish I could have some of that right now! Those shrimp look so good, and I love pasta. You're making me hungry haha! Probably not a good idea to be reading these dining reviews on my lunch break when all I have to eat is a granola bar and some pistachios...

Looks like Jiko has a pretty big menu for gluten intolerance. That's really nice to see that it's not just one or two options (well, except for dessert). Those scallops were very good when I had them, I really enjoyed the sauce they came with.

Yeah, I will admit that my favorite part of the Cape May breakfast was the waffles with whipped cream and chocolate chips (and strawberry syrup) too! I guess I'm just a big kid sometimes ;)

I'm looking forward to hearing about the cruise food!

Cape May Cafe is the best character breakfast! We absolutely loved it. Glad you guys enjoyed it too, but it stinks you weren't any more hungry :( They have the standard buffet but have a few unique extras that are absolutely great. That apple cranberry quinoa was worth the $30 for me ;)

The character interaction is great too! Donald was hilarious!

The gluten-free menu was a really cool touch! Over all, Jiko was just a great experience. And Cape May was tons of fun!

I am really glad that you have had great experiences at BoG - gives me a lot of hope for next time. We will certainly try it again - the atmosphere and the Beast will bring us back. If we have better service and food, we will be competing with you for those ADRs!

I wish I could have that right now too! My two-week stay-cation is taking a toll since I have not exactly been killing myself in the kitchen. Some tasty pasta from MM would be perfect right now!

Jiko was a great experience all around. I'm glad you liked the scallops too!

 Now that you mention it, if my gluten-free waffles had ever arrived, I would probably have loved that too!!!!

I'm looking forward to hearing about the cruise food!
I'm so excited to get to the DCL food. There was SO MUCH of it!

We had a really great time at Cape May! We were just so full! :rotfl2: Honestly, I think the real issue was booking these early breakfasts when we were coming from the West Coast. Next time, I will do what I did with Tusker House and book a very late breakfast - having breakfast at what would be 4AM for us just didn't work very well.

We did think the characters at CMC were wonderful - I was concerned because there were so few of them, but they really made it worthwhile! :cool1:

You are so forgiving and kind to not call out the chef for not delivering the GF waffles!! I'd be hollering 'where's my waffles?' :rotfl2: I suppose not having a big appetite that early in the morning soothed over any feelings of rebellion on that topic. Sorry you didn't enjoy it more though.

Ahhh whip cream and chocolate chips make an ordinary waffle extra special. :thumbsup2

Both times we've had breakfast at Cape May the characters made rounds twice and they were FANTASTIC. Goofy even took my seat at the table and messed with me.

Hi Roni! Getting caught up on your awesome DR, I just finished reading about your Tusker House experience and I have to say the special gluten-free goodies you were served certainly looked delicious! It sounds like you and Willow really had a great experience. TH is a restaurant I've yet to try as I'm not generally a big fan of buffets, but I have to say reviews like yours really make me want to experience it. :thumbsup2

Enjoying your reviews and am now going to dive back in, lol!

Great reviews!

I'm so glad Mama Melrose has great Gluten free offerings but it the worst place to eat if you are allergic to pork like I am. I never used to list my allergy cause it is more a reaction - I can't process the fat and it makes me ill, but it won't kill me. I just look at the menu and asked questions if there was any doubt like meatballs or meatloaf, etc.

At MM, I ordered mac and cheese - safe right??? NOT! someone put ham in the dish and didn't list it on the menu. Of coarse I ate some before I figured it out! Once I let the server know, all heck broke loose. They acted like I was at fault for not letting them know about my allergy up front! I still maintain that it should have been listed on the menu. A lot of people don't eat pork for religious and other reasons.

I love that the chefs come out and talk to me know though. It makes ordering so much easier especially at the buffets.

It was tough on the Dream though when I had to preorder my meals the night before! I never really know what I want till that moment.

Can't wait for the Fantasy reviews

I'm caught up.. sorry I've been off the Dis for almost 2 months!

So glad to hear you had good meals at Mama Melrose and Jiko. I think we may do Mama Melrose in May but Jiko my husband still isn't ready to give another chance!

Sorry BOG dissapointed! I've not even tried to get in there due to the mixed reviews! Maybe sometime in the future!

Glad you had such good experiences at Artist Point and Jiko - they're probably my two favorite Disney restaurants. :goodvibes Jiko's gluten-free menu is particularly impressive - it's nice that they don't limit you to a dish or two!
