How crucial is it to have a reservation for Boma for dinner?

My fiancé and I are going to be at Disney World 2/24-3/14. I am a big planner, so I already have all our restaurants planned and reserved. However, I have now decided that on March 6, I want to do a sort of resort hopping/exploring day, and have dinner at Boma (for the first time). However, I am unsure of exactly what time we'd like to eat dinner that day. I looked at MDE and the reservations for dinner that night are pretty open right now. Is it impossible to think that maybe we don't need to make a reservation and could walk up and get a table anytime? I will make one if I have to, but it would be nice to be flexible with our dinnertime that day.

Doubtful that you will be able to walk up. Very likely that you will find an ADR the day before. May not be the time you want though.

If you know you want to eat there - and I understand why. It is awesome - make an ADR now and see the day before if you want to cancel. If there is still lots of availability you can cancel and take the risk that the time you went will be there day of.

I would not just walk up. I would make a same day from MDE.

While you may get lucky and do a walkup, more than likely your chances of getting seated are about as likely as my Cleveland Browns winning a game this year. LOL

We have been able to get day before or same day reservations pretty consistently for two (however we have been flexible regarding time, as there is usually only one or two times available), and have been able to walk up and get a table once, but we went right when they opened, we have been turned away multiple other times when trying to walk up.

We went in March and tried to wing it one night and eat there, but there were no times left for that night. Instead, we were able to get a time for the next night and still ended up waiting a bit. I think you should definitely get an ADR.

Disney's dining model is based on adr. For better or worse, you do need adrs. Make one now so you have it. You can always modify it closer to your date if there is availability

If you know you want to go there, plan to make AKL your last stop. If you made yourself, say, an 8PM ADR, you wouldn't be rushed while exploring other resorts. If you find that you are ready to head over to AKL earlier than you expected, have a drink at Victoria Falls then take the time to walk around the resort before your ADR. If you find that you are just barely going to make your ADR in time, explore the resort after dinner. In any case, if you know you want to eat somewhere, make an ADR. Better safe than sorry.

We've seen people without adrs turned away every single trip. I agree with previous posters. Just plan on making the AKL your last hop.

You will need an ADR. If they take you as a walk in (a big if), you will wait forever for a table.

Definitely make an ADR. Make it a late ADR. We go to Boma every trip, and almost every time we get there earlier than our ADR time. We go to the check in counter, and explain that we are early. They always let us in early, with a little wait. Better to make it a late adr and get there early, than to be late and lose it.

Make a late ADR. Animal Kingdom is farthest from all other WDW destinations anyway, so it makes sense to just make that your last stop.
