We were planning to stay w/friends in Orlando 12/30-1/3 and didn't plan on going to theme parks, but now we think maybe Universal and one of WDW parks. We take a WDW trip every year but never to Universal. Besides MK will the parks be packed? Would it be worth it? I posted on Universal thread but got no response. I'd appreciate any advice!!

The parks will be busier than normal during that time. Some of them have a tendency to close due to attendance numbers. However it is still probably worthwhile to go and have the experience. If you know it will be busy and plan accordingly, it won't be that bad.

12/30 to 1/1 will be a zoo. The morning of 1/1 will be empty (after New Year's Eve), but will fill up during the day.

On 1/1 and 1/2, people will start heading home back to school. ::MickeyMo

Since you've done WDW, I would absolutely go over to Universal! Lots of people say it isn't as clean (it is), the staff isn't as nice (they are), and it is all thrill rides (it isn't). They have awesome architecture and some amazing experiences.

Although some of the stuff is similar to WDW, they have some stuff there to which WDW cannot compare. Spider-Man, Terminator, and Poseidon's Adventure are all experiences that can't be compared to WDW. And that Dr. Seuss carousel -- you just have to walk by the thing.

I really like Twister and found Earthquake to be a surprise.

I adored The Cat in the Hat, even though it is a kiddie ride. Gotta love the fish.

So, at the risk of becoming known as a heretic, I vote go to Universal.

We went to Islands of Adventure on New Years Day last year, and it wasn't too bad. However, we were staying onsite and had front of the line priviledges.

12/30, 12/31 and 1/1 are some of the busiest days of the year for WDW. You might want alternative touring plans for those days.

I don't want to sound like an heretic either but Islands of Adventure is a hoot.
