How crowded- Week before Christmas?

Its been a very long time since I've been to Universal - about 15 years- so I'm a bit lost! Probably going 1 day to Universal Studios only during the week before Christmas with DH and kids 12 & 10. Any insight on what I can expect is really appreciated! Do you think Express Pass would be helpful since we've only got the one day to see everything?

That week will probably be a bit of a transition week. Early in the week will be fairly light, but by Friday or Saturday it will be fairly busy. Although not as busy as Christmas to New Years. I would wait to buy express passes until yo see what the actual crowds are like.

Thanks for your feedback! We will definitely be going before the weekend - probably Thursday at the latest. Crowd calendars show it at Moderate and the estimated wait times don't look terrible- but we would want to see pretty much everything. Waiting to buy the Express Pass until we get there sounds like a good idea.

I don't know what the rest of your vacation plans are but another option to throw out there. The Annual Passholders for Royal Pacific are $144. You'd need to upgrade one of the 1 day tickets to an Annual Pass.

But you could do the 3 of the $130 2 day/2 park tickets from USSSA (Cheaper then 1 day/ 2 park from Universal) http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3321923 and 1 Power pass for $215. Plus 1 night at Royal Pacific for $144. That would give you 2 days in the park (even if the second day is only a couple of hours the night before it's "free" and you'd have express pass), Unlimited Express Pass, and Early Admission to help with Gringotts and Despicable Me.
