It will be choked full, no room to walk or maneuver crowded down mainstreet and in Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, and around ROA until an hour or so after the fireworks are over, as people try to leave after fireworks and Fantasmic.

The place will be crowded with people exiting, but what about the lines for the rides? Those are shorter after the fireworks, aren't they? Maybe go to Splash Mountain and Pooh and work forward, hitting rides along the way?
I agree, human traffic jam anywhere near the castle and Main Street. If a second showing of Fantasmic is going after Remember, much of the crowds will be heading into Frontierland/NOS to see that. If not, people either head down Main Street to exit, or into other lands to try to ride rides. This is one of the reasons that if I plan to stay in the park after the fireworks, I like to see them back near Its a Small World. Its much less crowded back there and once they open that ride back up following the fireworks, you can hop on it with no wait. You can also more easily head to Peter Pan and some of the other Fantasyland rides that have been closed for the fireworks and will reopen via the back part of FL by Its a Small World rather than coming through the castle from the hub/Main Street area. Its not as good a viewing spot as in front of the castle but the tradeoff is worth is sometimes. And they project some very nice projections on the exterior of Its a Small World. There are people here on the dis who won't see the fireworks from any other spot.
As far as wait times for rides following Remember (if the park has late hours) it can vary. If its cold a lot of people leave. If its not, it can still be packed, but with each half hour that passes post fireworks, it can thin out quite a bit. Or not, its hard to say in the end!A lot the local teens don't see Remember, they stay on the rides and in the ques. So sometimes I have headed to Splash or Space Mountain only to find a 70 minute wait at 10:00 p.m. Sunday nights following Remember on school nights can be wonderful. Sometimes if they have an 11:00 p.m. closing on a Sunday during the school year we have had one fantastic hour at Disneyland!
Sometimes we stay and get on quite a bit, other times its packed and we go ahead and head to our hotel to go to sleep to get an early start the next morning. We generally play it by ear because its hard to predict the crowds and our stamina!
Whenever we have gone the crowds are unreal after the fireworks. If you are going to be watching the fireworks just be prepared to move very slowly after they are over. If you don't need to see them just plan on maybe going on rides in New Oreleans square area. But you may be working around the crowds that were there to see Fantasmic too.

WHat rides do they close down for the fireworks? When do the get opened back up?
Do they play the music for the fireworks back near It's a Small World?
They close down Peter Pan and Storybook Land Canal Boats for sure. There are probably others as well back there. And yes, they do play the music back by IASW. You will miss the aspect of Tink flying in front of the castle and the affects projected on the castle. However, they do have some very cool projections on the exterior of Its a Small World. And above all, the crowds are so much better back there! If you have two nights, I recommend you see this show at both areas, then you will know what is your favorite spot for the next visit!

This is a time that we generally either stay in DCA, eat a meal or stay over in the far corner from Fantasmic- Space Mountain, Autopia, Nemo, IASW- that side of the park is less insane.
Thanks so much for the info. Sounds like this would be a good idea to see it from the back and maybe to have no wait for Storyland Canal Boats immediately after. Some folks even seem to think that the Boats are better at night.
This will give you an idea of the crowds. This was taken back in mid-December about 15 minutes after the fireworks were actually cancelled about 5-10 minutes into the show.
