How Crazy Does the Poly get with Visitors?

Hello,

I have been reading that a lot of people come to the Poly beach to watch Wishes and the boat parade. I am going in July and thinking about staying at Poly and am wondering if the resort will just feel too crowded with all these extra people visiting. I understand they are allowed to, that is fine with me, but I am looking for a mellow resort stay so just curious if it will be beach to beach people.

TIA,

believe me if you feel you are crowded just go complain.

security will stop outsiders from coming onto the grounds. they have been know to even go along the beach and ask to see the resort key. anyone who did not have a Polyn resort key was asked to leave.

so think you will be fine.

We stayed at the Poly in May, and there was no one out on the beach watching the fireworks with us. And we did it twice! We watched from the beach area that happened to be right beneath our room - at the end of the Poly buildings, near where they have the Luau show.

We've never seen it really crowded with visitors. The GCC can be crowded near the restaurants, but that area is easy to avoid. The beach area just seemed to have Poly guests watching the fireworks.

I've stayed at the Poly several times. While there are visitors that come to watch the fireworks on the beach, it isn't crowded. There are several beaches at the Poly and the one right near the pool gets the most people. But if you go further in either direction, you'll find almost empty beaches. Now if you want a hammock, you better stake your claim early!

If you want a resort no one goes to, then you should probably pick a less popular resort (maybe Old Key West??).

Each time I have went to visit the Polynesian and the one time I stayed there, I noticed that the Great Ceremonial House gets more crowded with people not staying there. The main reason for that is because of all their restaurant options and I don't remember seeing the Beach ever get as crowded.

I agree with Pat. If you feel too many non-resort guests are encroaching on your stay, tell someone about it. Especially for July 4th if that is when you are going. Ask the CM at the desk when you check in if they do something about too many non-resort guests making it difficult for the guests who paid to stay there to have a pleasant trip.

But a non-resort guest should never take over a hammock or a chair. If they sit quietly on the beach or stand watching the fireworks and water parade, and don't block your view (from too many of them), they would be fine.

If you are considering around the 4th of July you can expect crowds. I will note Disney Management is often reactive when it comes to take action that "could impact" others on property, so it definitely pays to complain to management as a paying resort guest. Otherwise they may take no action and go with the flow until the crowds start to damage resort property. Crowds during the 4th will overwhelm the resort, pool, and beach areas in the evenings. People entering room patio areas and removing the chairs is common. Outside of this holiday week the resort is fine other than ever present pool hoppers, since the do not enforce the resort pool policy like SAB.

We stayed at the Poly last year during a very busy Spring Break week. I found the Great Ceremonial House and the pool area to be REALLY crowded and busy. Forget about finding a place to sit down; we could barely move. It clears out a bit during the middle of the day, when most people are at the parks, but evenings are just nuts.

However, the quiet pool was closed for refurbishment during our stay, so I'm sure that added to the crowds at the pool.

Also, you know, July at Disney -- there will be crowds EVERYWHERE. I don't think you'll be able to avoid them no matter where you stay, so just choose the resort you really want & be prepared to deal.

If they "sit quietly?"

LOL, that's a riot. Who decides if they are quiet enough?

I often go for dinner at the Poly - I make a reservation and then enjoy the resort afterwards - including a dole whip ice cream on the beach (I am a 'local'). Many others whether they are staying at the Poly or not, may have ADRs too and will still be around. It wouldn't hurt to complain if you feel that you cannot find a spot to sit but with all those rooms it IS possible that the resort gets to almost capacity and everyone gets the same idea (especially if MK shuts due to its own capacity levels). Perhaps that evening you could consider a quieter dining experience somewhere else too? Or simply do as others do and stake out a spot early on the beach, get a snack or drink and relax :) Maybe your room will face the MK and you can watch from there?
It will be VERY busy wherever you go. People will be in and out of the parks, visiting resorts on the monorail and often the very popular resturants.
I won't take up any space though - I avoid July 4th at Disney because of said crowds!
;)

Most of the Deluxe resorts with popular restaurants will have busy lobbies.
When we stayed at Poly, I didn't find the beach very crowded.
The pool area iIMO is too small, and even smaller now with the Cabana rentals.
I stayed there in Jan, and couldn't find a lounge chair by the pool, so we sat on the beach near pool. Can't imagine what it would be like in warmer months.
But we loved our Poly stay.

From everything I've heard the 4th of July is the one time when the cms really do only allow Poly resort guests on the beach/pool area to watch the fireworks.

We stayed at the GF on the 4th one year and saw people setting up on loungers and chairs several hours before the fireworks even started!
