The most cruel thing happened to my friend! We had homecoming elections for freshmen today, (we have elections for every high school grade here,) and the majority voted for him for homecoming king- ONLY TO MAKE FUN OF HIM IN FRONT OF EVERYONE!! I can't believe they'd do something like that! He didn't want to take the crown because of this, so the runner-up got it instead. Everyone was going "Ha ha ha! He got it good!" They're always so horrid to him- but this is just going WAY TO FAR!!!!!!!! He's a really sweet guy, the only reason they pick on him is because he doesn't meet up to their "standards" and crap like that. I went to check on him and he looked absolutley miserable!! I went to talk about one of my friends about it- AND SHE WAS ONE OF THE ONES WHO PULLED THE PRANK ON HIM!!!:scared1:
She refused to show any remorse and I had had it up to here with her shallowness. (She's done a few other horrid things before this without remorse as well.) So I simply said: "You're shallow, you know that?" and walked away. My other friend who was surprised that such a thing had happened went to talk to her- and she didn't give a darn about his hurt feelings!!:sad2: Obviously, I'm not going to be talking to her anymore.

I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE THIS- HE NEVER HURT ANYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!:sad1:

what did they do exactly? was the announcement on stage?

that is so, so cruel!!

Thank you for standing by your friend, he will need you now more than ever.

I'm sorry. I am glad he has you for a friend.

@lilygator: It was in the auditorium and they just started laughing at him and saying mean things about him afterwards. They basically wanted to humiliate him.

I'm really confused. Did he win, not win, was it a fake? I just don't understand what happened.

:sad1:

Please take care of him. That must have been just horrible.

Please go to your principal about it, too, even if he/she does know about it already. This is a terrible case of bullying and it should not go unpunished.

He really did win, it's just that he refused to come down because they were being horrid to him, (laughing at him and stuff,) so the teachers decided to give the position to the runner-up.
Edit: Good idea- I'll do that as soon as I get the chance.

I second this - your principal needs to be involved, if he or she is not already. Something this cruel should NOT be allowed - and those that orchestrated it should be punished. If I was any parent at that school I would be peeved - not to mention how HIS parents must feel. If I heard that happened at my kids school, I would be calling the principal and the school board to ask them WHY that kind of crap is allowed at their schools.

You are a good friend - and other posters are right, he is really going to need you now. Give him a hug from us. :grouphug:

It's a main plot point in at least two movies; the newer made-for-TV Queen Sized and the classic Stephen King thriller Carrie.

I'd say that it's likely that they did it because they don't have much imagination.

I'm so sorry about your friend! You are a really good friend to be there for him like you are! This happened when I was in high school too. Except, only seniors made homecoming court and he didn't win king. I guess some seniors decided to vote for him to make court (only seniors voted for court, then the whole school voted for king, so he didn't win king). I was not in on the joke, I had no idea until after court was announced. It was sad, I think it was just the guys in on it. Some people are so mean.:guilty: Life is SO much better after high school!!!

That is just so sad! I hate mean people.

I hope you don't talk to her again. She sucks big time.

I hope he will feel better soon and be back to his old self. I hope this doesn't scar him for life.

High School students are ruthless.

Thank you, OP, for being not only a good friend but a good person. Hopefully these students will follow your lead.

That story is so horrible! How dare those kids do such a thing!

I would make sure that the principal knows and if you don't get any satisfaction, I would work your way up the chain.

No kid should have to suffer through such humiliation.

High School can be the best time of your life but sadly, it can also be the worst. Kids are vicious.

OP, you didn't say but I'm assuming he went home and his parents know what happened? If you have a few moments, maybe you could drop by with some brownies or ice cream or something, just to check in and say hi. I'm sure he'd be happy to see a true friend. It's really hard when you think everyone is laughing at you and I can't imagine facing that alone if his parents weren't home or he was too embarassed to mention it. :sad2:

Now it is really important to be his friend! ANd if there are other people as outraged as you, they need to be his friend as well! I think once he realizes there are more people "on his side" then on the jerks side, he will feel better.

I know you do not want to tell your principle, I remember school and no one wants to do that, but this case it IS necessary. Could you send an annonymous email, write a note, or tell a teacher that you know? This needs to ber addressed and the people responsible need to be held accountable. They do not need to know you told.

This is how Columbine came about, kids being outcast by the cliquey kids. It really cannot be let go in this day in age.

Good for you for being one of the good guys. After high school you go off into the world and never have to see the jerks again.

I'm sure your parents are proud of the person you are for standing up for him as well. Few people would do that, and it takes a special kind of person to act in the way that you have. Your principal needs to know asap, as this is the kind of stuff that leads to larger scale things-not to over react but I always worry about kids that get bullied to the extreme doing something permanent if they feel they can't go back to school. I would try to visit/call him and let him know how important he is to you. The kids that did this need to be punished, God help them if it was one of mine.

We just had an Anti-Bullying Law passed in Florida...do you have one like that as well in Ohio? Look in to it. Bullies do not have to be big guys, but anyone who repeatedly stops a student from learning in a positive environment. Maybe you can nail some of these kids that way...

I agree with another poster...this is how Columbine came about. We are doing "Rachel's Challenge" at my school, check it out...maybe share the idea with your principal.

Something similar happened to a girl in my high school back in the 70s. There are very few people who have no good physical qualities but this poor girl was one of them. A group of seniors all voted her onto the beauty court. She was devastated. The poor girl cried her heart out. I will never forget the look of pure misery on her face.

OP, I'm so sorry that this happened to your friend. Most of the people who played the trick on the girl in my school peaked in high school and they're losers today. They got their just desserst in the end.

I can't believe the principal didn't step in and do something at the ceremony. How did this keep going on? What else happened??

I am glad the kids at our high school are much more mature than that. 2 years the homecoming queen was one of the special ed kids. She is a sweetheart and EVERYONE loves her so they voted her homecoming queen. The smile on her face was just amazing during the football game. Her parents were just in tears during the whole ceremony.

They announced the homecoming court for our kids' old school and they did a nice job picking NICE kids. A couple of DS17's friends are on the court-they are far from being in the 'popular' crowd but they are just really, really nice kids.

A woman in our church choir's son was voted homecoming king in our neighboring high school. Her mom said her first reaction was "kids at school actually know who you are"? :lmao: He is a shy, quiet kid that the kids apparently really like. He is very smart (going to MIT next year) and just an all around good kid.
