Is it true there is a basketball court up there somewhere or is that a urban legend?

It's true, it's even shown on the photo.

The thing I heard about why the basketball court is there; back when they built the Matterhorn the city of Anaheim would not allow anything that size to be built unless it was a sports arena so Walt had a basketball court put in to surpass that "law". But that's just what I heard, no idea if that's why it's really there

That is an urban myth.The basketball court was added by cast members to kill time between shows.
I found out on youtube (I think) that the Matterhorn was built by the American Bridge Co.

IMO -- yes. The Fantasyland side is much smoother. It's missing a little extra dip that the Tomorrowland side has, but my back hurts so much on that side -- I prefer Fantasyland.
