How Comfortable/Uncomfortable R U Taking Pictures of Food?

I am going in October and would really like to take pictures of our food so I can share here. I really enjoy the restaurant reviews, so I want to pay back the people who contributed before me.

However, I'm a little anxious about what people will think if I'm shooting a picture of every plate around the table. We will be a party of six. Do you have each person take a picture of their own meal so it's less obvious/distracting?

What are the worst responses you have received from other guests?

Am I worried about nothing?

Plus, how do you all doing the food reviews keep notes?

My husband loved taking the pictures of all our meals. It was fun!

i took a pic of everything we ate on our last trip, i'd post them but i dont have a URL for them. I think you have to put them on photobucket to get a URL. Anyway, no one (that i noticed) cared that i was taking pics of the food. We were just 2 people though, i mostly just took pics of my food. Also, i didnt take notes but i remember all about each pic, somehow.
Dont worry about anything, just take the pics!

Are you worried about nothing? Yes.

I've never received one single solitary response from any other guest because I was taking pics of my food. No one has noticed, or cared. If anyone said anything to me, I'd tell them I'm writing an article for an internet travel magazine -- I might even ask them what they ordered, and if they would recommend it With a group of six, I'd probably pass the camera to others in my party rather than get up and walk around the table to take pics, just so I wouldn't bump into anyone or block aisles.

If you want to keep notes, you can get a tiny spiral notebook and keep it in your purse or pack.

Go ahead and take the pictures! If anyone thinks your weird or odd - they will certainly have the decency to keep it to themselves. Normally I wouldn't mind at all!!

The only time I might mind is if it was disrupting my meal at Victoria & Albert's. Think Food Paparazzi with constant flashes and loud talking "Don't eat that I need to get a picture first." Though you paid as much as I paid - you're getting the experience that you want and your entitlement to that is infringing on my right to the experience I want. I'd be annoyed, but I wouldn't say anything. In that case there is just no way to make both parties happy.

(I don't mind pictures of food at Victoria & Albert's - that's true art - I am saying obscene photography WITH the talking. I've heard lots of "Don't eat that", etc. at other restaurants.)

We went to WDW over Easter with my 2 sons and a group of their friends. The ranged in age from 16 to 18 years old, 8 boys all together. Our first dinner was at the Turf Club, and I took a few pictures of food. One of the 18 year olds laughed and said, "Wow, that has got to be the most touristy thing I have ever seen!" He was being funny, not rude, and I just laughed it off and kept taking pictures. So, I guess some people do find it odd, but who really cares? Have a good time and take as many pictures as you want!

I only took a few pictures on our Disney cruise (in the upscale restaurant, Palo). The waiter came straight over to me, he thought I was taking a picture of dh and came over to ask if I wanted to get in the picture with him. My dh had to straighten him out, "she's not taking a picture of me, she's taking a picture of her dish". I was a little embarassed but just joked it off saying I could see him everyday but didn't know when I'd see such scallops (as big as crab cakes) again.

No other diners noticed I'm sure no one else cared. If it's something you want to do (I like looking at pics in the dining reviews too!) just do it. Even if other people do notice, I'm sure they'll forget all about it by the end of the meal and so should you. And now I look forward to your dining review!

I always take pictures of my food, once in awhile I'll get a comment, but it's never been rude, more like they're just interested in why I'm taking pictures.

Why would anyone care if you are taking pictures of your own food? Now, if you got up and took a picture of another table's food, then I would have a problem with that!

Honestly, if someone is going to say something about you taking a picture of your food, they are also probably intently looking around the restaurants making sure every person is within the dress code so they have something else to complain about.

Even if someone did say something to you about taking pictures of your food (99% of people would just quietly comment to their own family if they were going to comment at all), would it hurt you or your vacation? I'd hope not!

Snap away! You know all of us want to see that food, and we're more important!

That's the kind of thing I want to avoid. And, I can just hear myself now - My father, who is hard of hearing will not understand why I want the picture of his plate and will probably forget everytime we go to eat. It would probably go something like this if you did not mention it:

Me: "Dad! Dad! DON'T EAT THE FOOD!

Dad: HUH?

Me: DAD! I told you I want to take pictures for my fellow DISers?

Dad: HUH?

And it woudl probably go on like that for five minutes before I got the picture. Now I will just tell him the one time and bring out the camera so he can take his picture first.

I feel 100% comfortable taking pictures and if people stare at me or make comments I dont care because I will probably never see these folks again anyways.

Even DH is cool with it now, he knows not to touch his food until after I take a picture!

I think so long as your conversation aren't disruptive - take pictures everywhere you go. You're on vacation - ENJOY!!!

I took pictures of my food way before I even knew the DIS existed, so I'm sure there are some people that take pictures that aren't DIS members.

I'm not nervious at all about taking pics of the food. As for what others think... I'll never see them again. They can think I'm weird all they want, but I know I'm far cooler than they are.

When I did it my first time in 2006, I just over powered my boyfriend and did it anyways. He still thinks its weird that I look at pics of food, but I don't think he minds it. And he likes it when I show him pics and am like "what do you think of that? Looks good don't it?"

I tried to get my mom to take pics of her food when she went to WDW with my sister. She did the first meal and then my sister snapped at her.

But regardless, I love food, and the food I eat is a huge part of my vacation. I don't find it any different than me taking pics of Cinderella Castle or ToT.

This is what I am up against too. My DH thinks I'm a "little off" anyway because of the planning and when I said I looked forward to doing my first food review he looked at me like I had grown a third head.

He loves food too though so I think he will end up appreciating the pictures. Just didn't know how many people were out there like him...
