How comfortable are the sleeping sofas?

Hello everyone. I'm getting ready to my first trip "home" this thanksgiving. My stepson, who is 15, is coming with us and we are staying in a 1 bd at SSR. I was wondering how comfortable those sleeper sofas really are. Do they use special matresses or pads? I mean, if a regular sleeper sofa is generally uncomfortable and is used every once in a while, I wonder how will the ones at DVC perform given they are probably used A LOT.
Do any of you recommend that we take a matress pad with us to use on top of it?
I really appreciate your help so that I can prepare in advance and not having "teenager's complaints" once we get there.

Haven't been to SSR, and I would hope they are better than the ones at BWV, especially since they are newer. At BWV, we could feel the bar under the mattress.

They are the nice new ones that don't have a bar, but are a solid mattress that pulls out. They have lots of support and are quite comfortable.

If it's just for 1 person you might consider sleeping on it unopened, done it many times, plus you avoid the hassle of opening and closing it all the time.
It's really not all that bad.

No, open it up. It is very comfortable. Kind of like memory foam rather than innerspring.

I have a sleeper sofa at home. I have found the bar hits people right in the middle of the back. I also found if I make the bed with the pillows where your feet usually go it is actually quite comfortable. The bar is then down by your knees. You would have to be shorter than the mattress as you will not be able to hang your feet over the end.

We were at SSR two weeks ago. I thought it was quite comfortable when I was laying with DD3. Also, there are linens (including a mattress pad!) in the closet.

I don't know about SSR, but at BCV you can ask housekeeping for one of those egg crate type mattress pads. You don't have to bring one from home.

At least the ones at OKW are. Like someone mentioned they have no bar. I found them to be the most comforatbel sleeper I've ever slept on, by far. If and when our sleeper at home needed replacement, I'd research these sleepers and get one for myself. You don't need anything extra.
Enjoy your trip.

Thank you everybody. My stepson is quite thin, so I really hope he will be comfortable. As someone said, I have also though about the hassle of getting the bed in and out everyday and so it might be an idea to try not to opening one night to see how it goes.
Anyway, I'll leave that decision to him since he will be one to sleep there.

Aren't they supposedly replacing the sleepers at the BW? I remember a discussion last year about the new ones and how they were replacing the existing ones.

I often get kicked out to the sleeper when my snoreing starts keeping the wife awake
I find the sleepers to be very nice. Firm but not to firm :cloud9:

They must have replaced the sleeper sofas at BWV because the one I just slept on was the most comfortable sleeper sofa I have slept on. I was there April 6 - 12th, 2005. I also had 2 rooms during that stay. 1 perferred view and one standard view. Studios

Hi there,

Please dont be offended, but it really all depends on your own weight. I am a 14stone male which in pounds is nearly 200 pounds and I find the sofa beds at VWL & BCV comfortable. I will be sharing the bed with my wife on most nights, apart from when I banish her to the bed to share with our DD who kicks like a horse.

The beds are fine unless you are overweight.

disneyfan - if the sofa bed you slept on wasn't like a conventional one (with the bar in the middle) then you had a new one. See the post above for a discription by "dianeschlicht" and "Deb and Bill".

I've had a couple of really bad ones in the past couple of years. Even the kids complained and when they complain it must have been pretty bad. Mousekeeping sent up one time an egg crate and then the other time extra mattress pads cause there were no crates.

My only experience with the sofa bed so far, was at SSR, and it was very comfy! :cloud9:

I've slept on a sleeper sofa at both VWL and BCV and neither were horrible. We have a sleeper sofa in our RV and that baby is a killer! The "kidney bar" is brutal! Truly, the sleepers I've slept on at WDW aren't bad at all. Granted they aren't as comfy as the bed, but hey, after a long day I could sleep on the patio.

DS has never complained about the bed, but he's pretty small (52" and 54 lbs). If it's really bad, try putting the mattress on the floor and sleeping on that. At least there wouldn't be a bar.

At SSR, you can't remove the mattress. It is not built the same. It is very comfortable to sleep on.

Take it from this ~300 lb'er ....the sleeper sofas at SSR are very comfortable. Staying at VWL lodge over Thanksgiving...and wondering if they have the same new type matress....or the conventional ones?
