How come the Volcano pool at the Polynesian is not off limits to DVC members?

I think it's pretty simple in terms of why DVC is allowed in the Poly pool and not the AKL. The Poly has 2 pools and the AKL currently only has 1. While the Volcano pool probably does fill up fast, there is another pool available. As to why Disney hasn't stopped DVC from using the Poly, I honestly don't think they're the problem. We have quite a few owners here on the DIS and many report that it isn't worth the trouble to pool hop to another resort. With it's close proximity to the MK, I think the biggest pool hoppers are those that ride over on the monorail. I think Disney should enforce their own policy and get rid of the people who don't belong there, before they go after DVC members.

Thaank you Tammy ii was thinking the same exact thing as I read this post Poly has 2 pool AKL ONLY HAS ONE so theycanuse the other pool well AKL can only use that one. Most likelyif they did'nt enforce the pool hoping rule AKL would be a zoo. I also disagree with that Poly is the most popular pool other than SAB because of the is OVER 1000 rooms at AKL. So AKL is ALSO packed no flames please

When we stayed at the Poly the pool was not really crowded at all.
We'll never pool hop there (or anywhere else for that matter) either. We'll just swim where we stay. To me, all DVC's have access to very nice pools, so I don't see the fun in dragging my dripping wet self around the property on buses, monorails and whatnot, to and from other pools, but that's just me. The only exception might be to walk over from BCV to BWV, but then who wants to leave SAB for a different pool? I guess it's nice to be able to say we "can" pool hop, in theory. It's just that in practice it doesn't really sound all that enjoyable to us. Does anybody really pool hop and like it?

I'm a DVC owner, at BWV, and I have also stayed at the Polynesian. I don't think the DVCers are the people you need to worry about. There just aren't that many DVC people pool hopping. It's more likely the pool crashers from the TTC and the MK that you should be concerned about. While at the Polynesian I overheard several conversations where people were talking about how nice it must be to be so close to the MK and have such a terrific pool. Then, they went on to say that they would never pay that much money though..it was much better to stay off-site and pay 1/4 of the cost but drive over, park at the TTC, and then just use the Polynesian pool. I kid you not!!! I hear almost that exact same thing on several different days.
If people are concerned about it, take it to the lifeguards. They should be able to go out and ask to see resort ID's from people. I wish they would do that at all the pools in any case. At least the pools that are easily accessable from the parks.
DVC people get pool hopping as a perk. It's something we actually pay for in a convoluted way. Can Disney take away that perk? Sure, at any time in fact. But, as of now, it is a perk for us. I'm sorry if anyone thinks that DVCers at other pools are clogging up the pools. But, I just don't think that is the case. Ther is no way that I am going to lug my swim stuff over to the Polynesian, where I have to search for a seat close to the pool, swim for a bit, then head back to my resort with all my swim gear. Nope, I love the pool at BW...that's where I swim. I can stay at BCV. I've done it before. And I have to say that SAB just doesn't appeal to my family anymore..too big and spread out, too crowded. The use of wristbands is not routinely put in place. I have seen many non-banded folks in the pool. Nope, I'm very happy at Luna Park.
But, I just don't want anyone assuming that it's DVC people that are causing the crowds at the Polynesian. More likely it's people from off-site, or on-site people that just don't get the rules (or choose to ignore them!).

I just realized in my previous reply if WDW did what I suggested it might look hypocritical of them not letting in guests coming from the Magic Kingdom, but still letting in DVC members.

I'm not sure on what basis you call this "hypocritical". Personal experience by many people reported here is that the #1 problem with pool hoppers at the Poly come from off-site day guests that like to hop the monorail from MK (or walk from the MK parking lot), and then slip into their suits in a bathroom or show up dressed for the pool. The Poly pool isn't primarily popular due to it's design, like SAB, it's "location, location, location." It's very popular with the group of people that are prohibited from all of the WDW resort pools: off-site guests. If Disney enforces their rules, then the DVC'ers would become a moot point. Quite frankly, for the most part the pools at the DVC resorts are nice enough that you aren't going to have hoards of DVC'ers hogging all of the lounge chairs at the Volcano Pool. Also, remember that DVC members are prohibited from using the Poly pools, during peak periods. After the 30th of this month and going until after the 7th of July, no pool hopping, even for DVC members.

Maybe I am looking at this issue differently...it just does not seem complicated at all to me...If you pay to stay at the hotel, then use the pool. When we stayed at AKL, we used the pool at AKL. It never crossed our minds to go to the poly or elsewhere because we had not paid for a room there. Just like I would not drive to the Hilton and get out and use their pool. I think that they need to be aggressive and check room keys for all the pools. If you were staying at Pop, I would hate to have to think that my kid...who is staying at AKL is taking your son's turn at the slide...when we should be at our pool anyway.

If you want to use the pool at poly, then book a room there and experience all the extras that come with that. I get less angry about Disney guests pool hopping (although I am not thrilled with it) than do the thought of someone dragging their kids into a Disney resort when they are staying out side the Disney property.

The wristbands sound like a great idea and something that can be color coded for each resort. Then you have no worries. Many people save thousands of dollars each year to go to these hotels and I think what is fair is fair. If you are not staying there, then you should be respectful enough not to use the extras that others are paying for.

As a side note, this "Disney club" people are talking about...I have no idea how that works and if pool hopping is included. But if it is, I am still sure that a different colored wrist band that alerts people in each hotel that you are in that club, would still allow them to hop. But I am not sure what the rules are.

DVC members are NOT the problem at Poly -- but some of us DVC members will continue to pool hop as long as we are permitted to pool hop.

I agree entirely with the previous posters who said the DVC guests are not the problem--if there's large-scale pool hopping going on, it's from non-WDW resort guests. Plus, the DVC guests have every right to use the WDW pools, they do pay for that perk. I think most of them aren't heavily using that perk, but it should not be taken away from them.

If the Poly would just enforce the existing rules, I think the problem would be greatly reduced. Why they don't is absolutely beyond me.

Believe me....Most DVC'er...love their accomodations and
will not move to pool hop....

It is a nice perk on paper.....but I don't think many people do...

Yes, DVC members can show proof and get a different color wristband, but that really isn't the problem. It's not DVC that needs to be identified, it's the illegal pool hoppers. During the periods when it's allowed for DVC to swim in other pools, they should be treated exactly like a resort guest. It's an amenity that's part of their membership fee. I don't think Disney or anyone else has a right to start treating them differently, until they've exhausted all efforts in keeping pool hoppers out. At that time, if there is still a capacity issue, then Disney execs can make an informed decision about changing the DVC member amenities. I'm not a DVC member by the way.

On our trip last Sept I didn'tthink the pool was overcrowded at all. Only on Saturday was it busy at the pool. Maybe in the summer people hop on the monorail, jump in the volcano pool and continue on to the MK?

well i was just trying to think how they can tell who belong there and who dont. if pool hoppers are not supose to be doing it, i just think they should make sure who is who befor making rules to strick.. i have never thought about pool hopping in till i heard on podcast that dvcers can.. and then this form.

I actually am not that fond of the Poly pool (heresy, I know). We greatly prefer Port Orleans/Riverside(Ol' Man Island) or AKL or WL. I will never understand why the Poly doesn't have a real hot tub.

We've been members for over 10 years and the only time we ever pool hopped was back in the days when you could hop to SAB. And we only did that when we were staying at BWV and could walk over. I'm with a number of people about the inconvenience of pool hopping. You won't find us pool hopping anymore. If I want to get on a bus or in a car with a wet suit, I'll go to a water park. It might be interesting to see a poll about pool hopping and what are the trends for most DVC members. I'm sure it is a great sale point. But I wonder how many actually utilize it much.

We enjoy being able to visit some of the other pools. We don't every trip, but it is nice sometimes, especially after eating at one of the other resorts, a non-park day, etc.

It's a great perk for DVC members that basically costs Disney next-to-nothing to offer, but sounds great on paper, and in reality, is a very nice perk for those DVC members who wish to take advantage of it!

Technically, the lifeguards can make a sweep of the area, asking to see resort room keys. If you don't have a room key at that particular resort, out you go. DVC members have a DVC card they can show. If the lifeguards did this on a regular basis, you would see the illegal pool hopping slow way down. Nobody wants to be kicked out of a pool area.
Check ID's...it's very simple.
