How come the Volcano pool at the Polynesian is not off limits to DVC members?

I don't pool hop because it's a pain, but maybe I'll start. I must be missing something if there are so many DVC members doing it.

I'll join you. I am staying at the FW cabins this year, we all know they have a boring pool, maybe I will go visit the Poly :rotfl:

Oh wait, I am not staying on points ;) oh well.

I've stayed at the Poly a lot and don't have a problem with the pool.

Honestly, I think the pool hoppers are exaggerated around here. There just aren't that many people who want to go swim at some other hotel.

omg...You MUST be kidding....go ahead...."pull the other one!!!"

:lmao:

Technically, the lifeguards can make a sweep of the area, asking to see resort room keys. Check ID's...it's very simple.
I agree, however I probably wouldn't want to see it fall under the responsibility of the lifeguards. I'm picturing a club bouncer type guy, in a blue shirt that reads "Security" across the back, with maybe a firearm of some sort around his waist ::cop:. I think that presence alone would deter quite a few rule breakers.

Technically, the lifeguards can make a sweep of the area, asking to see resort room keys. If you don't have a room key at that particular resort, out you go. DVC members have a DVC card they can show. If the lifeguards did this on a regular basis, you would see the illegal pool hopping slow way down. Nobody wants to be kicked out of a pool area.

I agree. Enforce the rules..I was so happy last year to be staying at BCV..no overcrowding, I thought, with the bracelets and the monitoring. I sat by the slide and more people did not have bracelets then did...I have spoken to my rep and guest services about this till I am blue in the face. Disney does NOT monitor their pools, people come from the greater Orlando area..hop on free transportation and use the pools. It's very discouraging.

Okay I am probably going to get flamed for this but why should DVC's get to pool hop? If I go to WDW several times a year and always stay at a deluxe and pay dearly for it, I am paying more than a DVC so why should I not be able to pool hop???? Personally I would never pool hop, I pick my resort, usually POLY and that is where I stay and that is the pool I use. Again if some people (non DVCs) can't pool hop, then no one should, it just seems fair! Am I wrong here!!!!!!!!! :confused3

Let's all face it, Disney doe not care. They do nothing to enforce the rules, the pool is wayyyyy over crowded, yet the Poly continually sells out and is one of the harder resorts to get at times (you don't hear of people getting a free upgrade to the Poly when the values are overbooked!) Until it hurts reservations, why should they care? The resort is selling out at astronomical rates, and everyone at the MK who wants to (yes, when I stayed there it felt like everyone at the MK hopped over to the Poly pool) feels refreshed during the afternoon with a free dip in the Poly pool (they have a changing room, locker room, showers there for convenience, heck and some people think lifeguards should make a sweep, in my opinion the resort encourages it!) When I stayed there, pool hoppers were obvious on the monorail and boat, and even bragged about it to the bartender, and no one said or did a thing. We will not be staying there again. Until others do the same, I don't see them changing anything.

I think my $50K is a bit more than your stay at a deluxe. (I bought when the points were cheap, not the $104 a point they get now.) Not to mention the annual member fees. I'll pay about $120K in the years that I own my DVC points. And that's just the lodging, not tickets, food, other costs that Disney gets from me. Anyway, DVC has negotiated this for the members with Disney. So that is that.

At this time DVC is legal to pool hop with restrictions. I agree they need to deal with those without permission to be there, first. Then if DVC is over crowding the pool, deal with that next as they did at SAB.

However until everyone that is fed up with the situation actually contacts Disney and complains nothing is going to change.

Email them: wdw.guest.communications@disneyworld.com

im gona be paying 209 a month (1600 down and anoth 50+ month for maintnce..i should be abel to pool hop if i want its one the perks

I've said it again and again, my only experience w/ pool hoppers is local teens coming over from MK. They probably have annual passes and do it often on the weekends. I've witnessed it. Not a big deal to me though. There was still a place for my family on the beach. If there wasn't a place, I'd be upset.

Why? It's simple. It's called The Golden Rule of Arts and Sciences: "He who has the gold, makes the rules." Disney owns the joint and paid for it. They get to decide who can, and can't, do what. When Disney set up DVC, they realized that it's a good sales tool to offer non-binding "perks" as a way to help convince folks to cough up a dog choking load of money to buy into DVC. Currently, that package include non-peak period pool hopping. Unlike discounted APs, restaurant discounts, free valet parking at DVC resorts, etc., pool hopping is a perk that WDW can offer that costs them a grant total of nothing.

It also amazes me how people can get bend out of shape over something that so few people actually utilize. We are another set of DVC members that have never pool hopped, and it doesn't appeal to us.

So, what's your point? Be sure to bring your refillable mug from a previous visit. ;) (Sorry, couldn't resist)

What you said! & Ditto with respect to hopping. In 20 years of trips, we've only quasi-pool-hopped once. Quasi because we took our daughter to POFQ pool when we were staying at POR.

Yes you are! I do not pool hop, I barely get in the one at my resort, but it is a perk, so when I bring my family and they want to, then I will certainly bring them to whatever pool, we are allowed to come to.
I have 4 DVC properties, spend a good bit down there, myself. It is the non DVC members or maybe even the locals, coming over. Teenagers work all things out. Get a FLA resident pass, or just park at Ticket and transportaion and hop on over.

The OP is going to the POLY with his parents in DEC, He must be worried about it, stirring the Poly pot.

And I think we've covered this one off quite thoroughly. The topic of the thread is howcome the Volcano pool isn't monitored like the Stormalong Bay pool... not.. why do DVC get to pool hop.

We've strayed far enough from the original point that I think we're done here.

:)

Thanks,

Knox
