How come the Volcano pool at the Polynesian is not off limits to DVC members?

In a lot of threads I read about the Volcano pool at the Polynesian there always seems to be someone who says they are always having problems with pool hoppers, the ones who are not DVC members so they are breaking the rules. Anyway if I had to guess I would say the Volcano pool is the 2nd most popular pool in WDW after SAB, so because of the problems they sometimes have how come DVC members would still be allowed to pool hop there if they wanted while on points? I can understand why they have no pool hopping rule for SAB, as for the pool Animal Kingdom Lodge I don't get why it's in place there but they made it a rule there for a reason.

It is not off limits, because while it seems many complain about the pool here at the DIS, they do not complain to the Polynesian about it.

When Disney gets enough complaints about overcrowding, as they did at SAB, then possibly it will become off limits too.

I have never seen one of the threads you speak about. I have never been to this pool (but I want to see it now) and I have never heard anyone complain about pool hopping guests. Maybe I subcontiously have avoided these threads...

Because Disney has said that DVC members can pool hop to the pools at the Polynesiana and other resorts. When they say "No", that's when it will stop.

I do see what you are talking about. I will not pool hop to this pool and make myself part of the problem. I imagine that this pool may soon become off limits to pool hopping (I hope). I have no problem with these types of restrictions.

i think that as a dvc member you should be abel to pool hop. but if your not then you shouldnt..simpel as that we are paying over 200 month for our dvc (when get it) and I better be abel to pool hop if i want to. I do not think non members should be abel to but i guess for those that do i hope they dont get cought..let them have there fun there at disney for gods sake. I wouldnt turn them in , couse then there could be a time im trying to have fun with my children some where and some one turns me in..karmas a b and she dosent play fair

I think it's pretty simple in terms of why DVC is allowed in the Poly pool and not the AKL. The Poly has 2 pools and the AKL currently only has 1. While the Volcano pool probably does fill up fast, there is another pool available. As to why Disney hasn't stopped DVC from using the Poly, I honestly don't think they're the problem. We have quite a few owners here on the DIS and many report that it isn't worth the trouble to pool hop to another resort. With it's close proximity to the MK, I think the biggest pool hoppers are those that ride over on the monorail. I think Disney should enforce their own policy and get rid of the people who don't belong there, before they go after DVC members.

I seriously doubt the Poly's pool is that popular for DVC'ers to hop to. I think Coronado, French Quarter, or Boardwalk would be more fun for most kids.

Probably the Poly pool could be easily crashed, though, by TTC foot traffic coming and going and the monorail.

Wasn't there a thread in the past just like this one only it was the Contemporary pool that time?

I agree with you that they should try to enforce the rule to the people who come of the Monorail however if they tried that and it did not work, wouldn't the next phase be to stop pool hopping at the Polynesian for DVC members? i agrea about the monoter users..but i think the dvc members should be abel to go...i dont know all the pools i look forward to looking them all over. it will also help me decied what other resorts to go to next time i go..in jan im at akv.

Yes they need to do something about it, but they haven't done anything to enforce their own rules. There's been no phase 1 (attempts to stop the rule breakers), so we can't possibly make the jump to phase 2 (banning DVC) yet.

I don't recall SAB ever being open for pool hopping! Too bad I missed it. I keep trying to get DVC ressies there and can't, so I don't know if I will ever be able to try it out.

When we pool hop, we either go to OKW or SSR because they are more convenient for that, plus DH likes the slide at OKW. I tend to agree that Poly pool hoppers are probably NOT DVCer's. Of course, that pool area seems crowded to me even when there aren't any people there!

I am not sure the Polynesian pool holds the appeal of SAB but it was due to DVC pool hoppers that caused the change there.

However at the Polynesian my guess would be a combination of 3 things, the pool is just too small for the resort in general, pool hoppers from the MK that are not DVC and some DVC also; making for a very crowded situation during the summer months.

The only other thing I can think of to stop people from pool hopping at the Polynesian, is to enforce the same rules they have at SAB. This way it would stop those coming from the Magic Kingdom and there would no reason to stop DVC members from going there, if they wanted to.

The only way they will ever stop pool hopping PERIOD is to install fences with gated entry around the pools and require a room key to enter the (one) gate into/out of the pool area.

Currently, ALL the pools at the Disneyland Resort have this in place. I assume it is because of the HUGE percentage of people who visit DL for the day and the people who stay offsite vs. the TINY percentage of guests staying at a Disney resort. Those pools would be MOBBED if they did not gate them.

They manage to work these gates into the landscaping so that they are not that obvious. However, I can see how this would be difficult to do at the pools at WDW that take advantage of the views across the lagoon, lakes, etc.

But, really, it's the only way. Those fences at DLR are iron bar style and they are about 8 feet high, so no climbing over!!!

I just realized in my previous reply if WDW did what I suggested it might look hypocritical of them not letting in guests coming from the Magic Kingdom, but still letting in DVC members. Obviously if they are not DVC members they should not pool hopp anywhere in WDW, unless the Resort they were staying at was a sister Resort. However I still say the only other way is to enforce the rule is to do what SAB does, but still let DVC members pool hopp if they want to because that way they would let the guests in who are allowed to be there. So you can say the rule would be tweaked for the Volcano pool.
