Am I going to be freezing my little hiney off the last week in January? and how are the crowds? We picked this time because all of the books said it is very slow this time of year....but now i am reading here that people are saying there doesn't seem to be any slow times at WDW anymore? I wanted to go swimming...whine, whine, whine...... :earsgirl:

You don't say where you're from so the best answer I can give you is maybe. It may be cold but that it relative, being from Maine 60's - 70's is shorts weather for us. Ususally iit's cool in the mornings and at night but nice during the day. I'm not so sure about swimming. We usually go every year in January and have always had a great time. Swimming is not a high priority for us since we live on the beach, although I would want to go swimming in January in Maine. The crowds wil not be to bad. Not like July anyway. Overall park attendance is up 15% - 20%.

Here's a link to several years of temp and rainfall data: http://www.srh.noaa.gov/mlb/mlbclimat.html

We were there this Jan 1 through 10 and the daily highs were from 75 to 85 degrees, I didn't wear long anything at anytime the whole week. The crowds were nonexistent after Jan. 2.

We were there from Jan 22-29 this year, and had read about the warm weather in early Jan and thought we might get lucky, too. Wrong!!! Many mornings were in the high 40s, and I think it may have gotten up to about 70 on 2 days but most days were closer to the low 60s.

However, crowds were very light, especially in the mornings on the coldest days, so by the end of our week we were actually rooting for cold weather! We never did make it to the pool, though.

Keep checking weather.com before you go. One last thing -- don't forget the hat and gloves!

Have fun!!!

We are going to be there the same time and I agree that temperature is relative. Right now in Chicago, it is 28 degrees and snowing so 65 and sunny sounds like heaven. We are not hot weather people so 60s and 70s are great for us. As far as swimming goes, the pools are pretty warm so unless it is really cold, I think you will be fine.

And hey, we will be in WDW, what could be better! :teeth:

Like everyone else has said, temperatures are relative. We are from northern Ohio and we swim every year. However, we have had people from Georgia, Louisiana, etc. walk by us in winter coats with hats and gloves and look at us as if we were totally crazy. I remember one year that I bought myself several sweatshirts and put them on my little boys so that they were like very long dresses and covered their legs. Generally, I pack a spring jacket for everyone for the mornings and evenings, a pair of long pants (and they are usually worn at least once) and lots of shorts. I hope this helps.

MLK weekend Jan 2003--we were told it was the longest cold streak in recent history--swam the first day but cold wind made standing for the slide painful...later that night it dropped into the low 30's and stayed that way in the mornings and in the evenings and never got much above 40 for 3 days in a row during the day....eventually broke out into the low 70's---and 40 in FLA is a WET bone chilling cold...it did make for light crowds at ILLUMINATIONS...we chickened out of Fantasmic--too cold---walking around the theme parks with kids and winter coats was not a lot of fun---but it was still magical nonetheless--be prepared....it is like the old NEW YORK LOTTO --Ya never know...
