How cold is too cold for swimming in the Pools

We are heading down to ALK and Poly next week. The high temperature looks like it will be in the high 60's and low 70's.

Realistically - are we going to want to swim in the pools. I know they are heated - but still - I think the shiver factor might be high at those temps.

Anyone have experience using the resort pools when it is that cool out?

We swam in December 2003 on days that it hit the low 70s (the warm days) . It was a tad colder than I like when swimming and we didn't last very long. You can certainly do it. Bring things to cover up in for afterward.

Being from Upstate New York, we look at cold as a relative term (right now it is a balmy 0 degrees with a -18 Wind Chill). We went swimming at 9 in the morning at ASMo in November when it was 60 . Everyone was walking by with gloves and coats on looking at us like we were crazy! Yes, the pools are heated, but you are right about the chill factor when you get out of the water. It depends on your tolerence.

We are from New England. We will be the crazy people swimming when it is 60 degrees. It is so cold her now. We had a few warm days last week when it hit 45 degrees and I was wearing a sweatshirt instead of a coat. 60 will feel quite warm to us.

We were at the CR two weeks ago when it was 84 in the afternoon and close to 60 in the evening. Being from Florida, I thought the pool was cold. I did stay in for about 1/2 an hour, but it was not too comfortable. The kids didn't care. They would swim in a blizzard.

It depends on how badly you want to swim. My kids went swimming in December 2003 when the high had been in the low 60's during the day...they went swimming in the evening when it was cooler. But they are children and didn't care if it was cold.

I've seen 'em swimming in 32 degree weather. Made me freeze just to see it! BRRRRR!

I have to agree with bckwilliams and taratink. Were from Cleveland, Ohio so if anyone knows the term "Lake Effect Snow" they know that it's very common for us to get about 2 feet of snow in a day and it's below 0 quite a bit. So I think it depends on what types of temperatures you are used to. We don't bat an eye at swimming in 55-60 degree water (before you ask yes I mean the actual water temperature) and when it gets above freezing and around 40 degrees in late winter we have outdoor cookouts. To us thats completely normal but my relatives in Florida think were insane. The bright side, is that even if you are freezing when you first jump into the water, if you completely immerse yourself you'll get used to it rather quickly. At least we always have so maybe that would work?

It does seem to depend on where you're from. When we lived in Massachusetts, 60's was a fine temperature for my DSs to be in the pool. Now that we live way down here, hotter than WDW, it has to be at least 80 degrees out, even if the pool's heated.

My son and husband have a 60 degree rule for swimming in heated pools and a 50 degree rule for golfing. If it goes below that either of those temps. they're not golfing or swimming.

We went in January and it was quite cool out, probably 55 degree or so. My friends went swimming and said the pool felt like a hottub. The water is really warm. Then again, it really does depend on your tolerance because we are all from Buffalo, NY and are use to the cold. 55 in Jan. is warm to us.
