How close can you get to the ship in Nassau?

I've only been on Fantasy and didn't go to Nassau so I don't know the answer but a coworker who will be cruising on a different cruise line in a few weeks found out that they will be in port at Nassau same day as the Dream and they wanted to know how close they will be able to get near the ship to look and take pictures?

The ships are lined up in a row and share a dock/walkway in between.
So it might be Dream sharing a dock with Norweigen and then next to them, there will be a Carnival ship sharing with a Royal Caribbean or another Carnival. etc.

You can take pictures from the deck of the ship you are a passenger on, or stand on the mutual dock and take pictures, or take pictures from the main dock leading into the port as well.
Obviously, they would not be allowed onto the Dream, but they can get pretty close to her. :)

This was taken in Nassau in December...as you can see in the backround there are a couple more ships docked right next to us for the day. I wish I had something else a bit more clear to illustrate.
If you go to the Nassua webcam, you can pretty much see the layout.

Ok, got it. So if you are not on one of the two ships that share a pier, or quay, would they let you walk down it in between the ships?

Yes you can. The port only has an access point to the entire pier. Once you are in the pier area you are free to walk to any ship berth you wish. The next security point is when you try to board any ship and they ask for their respective key card to verify you belong.

You can walk beside any ship in port so long as you have access to the port.

Yes. As long as you can prove that you belong on the pier, (you will eventually board one of them) you can walk to any of the 6 or so finger piers that ships are moored to. Front to back side to side. A lot of people ship watch and take pictures of the different ships in port.

Thanks. Good info as always. I thought I read somewhere that the Dream was the most photographed ship that ports there.

Does this shot of the cruise pier area help?

the row of buildings below the ship at 1 is where the control point is. Once past this point you can rom pretty much freely ..... up till access control for a ship that is.

ideally, their ship will have the DCL one immediately along side and they may be able to look across from up high. At pier level all you see is a dark blue wall!
p.s. a somewhat older view of the pier area

That's helpful. I think every time I've seen the Dream in that port on the portcam it's always in slot number 3.

As an aside, I just have to say on that last photo of the Dream docked, it's just amazes me how pristine their ships look, especially compared to all the other cruise ships. Almost all of them show some rust, or wear, or something, but Disney's always have this pristine look. And I know that's not easy when in the sea all the time because that's a very corrosive environment.

I think the color scheme definitely helps, as opposed to most other ships that are white and show a lot of rust and whatnot. Indeed, the first section of portholes looks rather grubby if you look at the photo closely.
