if it fits my canon rebel 2000 film will it fit any rebel ( digital)?

Yes if a lens fits your Canon Rebel 2000 it will also fit your Digital Rebel.
But there are a few(very few) older Sigma lenses that will not operate fully on NEWER digital canons. I have 28mm 1.8 Sigma that will only work on my 20D fully opened, If I stop down at all it gives an Error code.

And the Digital Rebels will also take EF-S lenses that will not fit on your Rebel 2000.

Yeah....

... watch out for the few older autofocusing lenses that don't work properly on the digital Canon SLRs. And no - I have not seen anyone post a list yet. From personal experience I have strong suspicians about 3rd party lenses that did not function properly with my 10D. My experience is limited to a Tamaron 18-200 DX lense. A new one at that - obviously.

And now for something completely differnt - this is what "I want" for Father's Day... not that I'm likely to get it this decade or next...

I went to look at 2 old lenses, 50mm f1.8 and 100-300 1:4.5-5.6 and found that they were both slow to focus. The lenses haven't been used in years so were dirty, the seller wants $125 for each which I thought was too much for used lenses. But the seller keep telling me that the older lenses have much better "glass" and quality. Anybody know if there's any truth to "older" being "better"?

BTW, I have posted before about buying a Nikon D50, but after a weekend playing with friend's Rebel, I fell in love. Love that backlit LCD (now I know what the fuss is about)in a dimly lit bowling alley birthday party!

I do not know about the optics being any better, and I imagine that you may consider some modern non USM lenses to focus slowly.

One thing about older lenses, most will have metal mounts. The current 50mm 1.8 lens has a plastic mount, the whole thing feels like a toy. But it takes great pictures, and can be purchased NEW for around $80. The 100-300mm really depends but IMO Zoom optical technology has improved through the years, I just dont find lenses in that range to have ever been considered great.

Again this is only my opinion, but if lenses are "dirty" it could be a sign that they recieved poor care.

You can purchase the 50mm 1.8 and a 75-300mm USM(faster focus) lens for just a little more than this guy is quoting you and they would both be brand new. Some do pay extra money for the metal mount 50mm, but only if well taken care of.

by" older" how old do you mean? i think i got mine 3-4 yrs ago so is that old enough to be to old? Thanks

No... older generally predates DSLRs and that probably means pre 2000 lenses.
