I am looking at the Cosmos brochure, which is advertising townhouses in the Orlando area for rent. Now, they are saying a 2 bed townhouse will sleep a MAXIMUM of 4 adults and 2 children BUT there are supplements for anything from 2 adults to 5 adults sharing.

I don't understand how they can charge a supplement for 4 adults sharing when it clearly states that the maximum occupancy is 4 adults and 2 children.

Can anyone explain this to me - and is it legal :confused3

Sorry can't help on this one but its very similar to a problem with TCD

Do a price check of flydrive and flydrive with accomodation with TCD. On the Internet summary page, the 'flight component' of the overall package price is often £20 pp more expensive doing the flydrive only than that of a full package. Now I know they can argue you receive a flight discount as part of the package but its a bit dubious when a full breakdown is covered on the summary page.

We were considering a flydrive package with a DIY villa rental but taking the above comments into acount, this was prohibitive for a large group.

Anyone else had similar experiences?

Self catering holidays have usually been advertised like this. Well for the past 40 years that I can remember.
They advertise a smaller price per customer for the maximum occupancy and this rises with a lesser number of guests.
Fairly normal really and quite understandable.

all the hotels also have a maximum occupancy number....
that does not necessarily mean that you can have the maximum occupancy for the price given...

for example...in disney resorts....typically the maximum occupancy is either 4 or 5 people (depending on the resort)..
however the price given is only for 2 adults in the room (children are free)...
for each additional adult in the room over 2, you pay a supplement....

in the case of disney resorts, the maximum occupancy number is just telling you how many people can stay in there, not the number for that price...

terry and disneyholic, I totally understand what you're both saying. Maybe I didn't express myself properly in the first place. The brochure states that prices are based on 4 adults sharing and maximum occupancy is 4 adults, 2 children. Therefore, how can they possibly justify charging a supplement if there are actually 4 adults sharing!

I'm obviously not making myself particularly clear so don't worry about it :confused3

Just wanted to add that Cosmos actually charge a supplement if you don't have 4 adults sharing a room at Disney - we looked at staying at ASMo and for 2 adults and 2 kids, we would be paying a supplement of £17 per adult per day, even though there would be 4 people in the room.

I think I will just accept that Cosmos are adding in all these supplements and perhaps they're not the best company to book with - think I'll stick to Virgin :)

It may be worth noting that in general terms UK Brochures charge per person for hotels and in the US they charge per room.

oh i see what you're saying....well that sounds completely wrong doesn't it..
perhaps you would be better off booking everything separately....
i always book our stays directly with WDW, rather than go through an agent or buy a package....

This is why I'd never dream of booking a package holiday through a UK tour operator. When you book a room in the US you pay per room, not per person. Same when you book a villa, either directly with the owner, or through the owner's agent - you pay a price to rent the villa regardless of how many people occupy it.

i have always seen this as a scam by the tour operators.....there are 4 beds all being used so how they can charge a supplement when you can't get any more people in is beyond me !

If you're after a villa try Virgin - they charge you for the flight and then the villa. The villa is a flat charge so the more people you get in it the cheaper it is per person. No supplements there. The prices may look slightly higher at first glance but they work out cheaper once you start adding on the supplements added on my other operators. They're just trying to make their headline prices look low.

It's the same with room - the price quoted for a room with virgin is based on two people sharing - whereas most other operators are based on 4 - so you put two in a room you pay a supplement... I know most us hotel rooms have two beds but do you really have four adults sharing a room!!!! No thanks!
