how can they change my cost?!

How could you not realize that the rates for '08 would be higher than the rates for '07? Especially if you have been going to Disney World for as long as you say you have? They rase their rates every year! There has been lots of complaining about the new rate structure, but unless you are used to booking your whole stay for a Value Season rate, the increase is not really that horrible. Should I be able to book for 2010 now and pay only 2007 rates? How would that make sense? I am truly bafled at how upset you are.

I'm not. If Disney doesn't know the rate then they shouldn't book the rooms. People book rooms based on price. I could understand if there was a tax increase then the money is due but if Disneydoesn't know the correct room rate then they shouldn't book the room.

Not everybody sits on these sites (like I do) and know the ins and outs of booking.

Wait a minute, guys. She's talking about several months away - the examples of several years seem a little unfair to me :) . And, yes most of us know that rates were going up, but maybe she did not, and most of us also know that Disney is often inconsistent in explaining things - heck I could call 5times tonight and potentially get 5 different answers on certain issues. Last year a CM was angry with me when I was asking about the kid's cruise at POR - she told me not to believe everything I read on the internet :rotfl: . If it wasn't for studying these boards, the lack of accurate information would have affected several of my trips - including the need for Teppanyaki replacement ADR's for this Sept. So ... maybe a little sympathy and gentle explanations would be nice :hippie: .

I agree totally. Not everyone is a Disney Veteran.

Unlike WDW, you cannot book at Disneyland Resort until rates are released. Following the same policy at WDW would be more problematic because of the vast difference in the number of rooms.

You did not answer my question, what did the CM lie about? If she made a reservation for 16 instead of the 25 then that is a mistake in the numbers, not a lie. What is the lie?

Did she make a reservation for the wrong number of people?

You veterans are getting way to nasty. Lighten up!;) Disney is a place of happiness and memories:wizard:

Disney tells guests that rates have not been set yet and will change. Guests book anyway knowing the rate will change...

If the guest doesn't want to make a reservation based on an unknown rate, then the guest should not book until the rates have been set.

Not everybody sits on these sites (like I do) and know the ins and outs of booking.

Then they should talk to a travel agent instead of booking on their own.

I don't see a problem here.... :confused3

I think this thread is rapidly coming to a close. You might want to post your closing thoughts and keep it nice everyone.

my closing thought.

You obviously are unhappy with everything Disney, I would spend my 8k somewhere else. Take the "kids" to Universal/beach.

That is what we are doing next year. I love WDW but just can't afford to keep going as much as we used to.

People book rooms based on price.

I book rooms based on when I want to go and where I want to stay. Price is certainly a consideration, but I have the option of cancelling or changing my plans if the rates change to something that is unacceptable/unaffordable. I don't think I've ever booked anything, anywhere, more than about 6 months out and received a "guaranteed" rate, especially if it's in a different calendar year. ;)

Thank heavens they let people book in advance of the rates being released! Unlike most hotel customers, Disney ones are a different breed, planning their trips a year or more out. Can you imagine the phone tie-ups if they released the rates THEN allowed booking for the next year??? It's bad enough for small events like CP.

Thought is was interesting that the OP was a DVC member...those dues (hence, the room rate of sorts) go up every year, while bookings are made far in advance of the increase notification. Not sure why/how hotel increases are considered different.

I feel the same way. I booked twice not knowing the rates for the following year but I needed to know that I had the rooms. Every time that I called, and I called quite a few times I'm afraid, I was told that the rates for the following year had not been released but was told what the prices were for the current year. I twas hard for me because I like everything to be settled in my mind. I was having a hard time when I wanted to book SOA and had to wait becasue I like to know that I have my plans set, if I had to wait for rooms I would make my family crazy.

I have been vacationing for the last 25 years and I can honestly say that when I reserved a room that was the rate I paid including Disney
(Other than Canada where the Canadian Dollar Rate Changes daily.)
and I always book way in advance. This years GF trip was done 8 months in advance. I guess I just never experienced a rate increase and like the other person would have been a little upset. Nobody would be happy to put out extra money and I don't think any body should be put down because of it.

I love Disney and have been there way to many times to count and will keep going. I think it is a magical place and a place my family has many many wonderful memories from. But I do not think Disney is above all and I should excuse practices because it is Disney.

I called today to inquire about AP rates fro WL for Dec 18-26. They quoted $200 for the first part, $240 for the last few days. The same inquiry for POFQ was $105, then $124, then $199 for the last few days. It could be because the offer ends December 23, but why the middle change at POFQ? Anyway, I was assured that my $65/night AAA rate that I already had was intact for ALL days...not changing..I don't know if this is informative, I made this ressie many months ago.

So, just to double check. Disney isn't changing the prices on 2007 reservations, correct? I have a December 07 ressie that carries into the holiday season and I don't want to check in and find that my balance has doubled! :faint: I think my husband would kill me!!

Here is a website to check the 2007 prices:
This year the price for the whole stay is based on the season you check in.
Next year if the seasons change during a stay then prices will change accordingly.

Thanks Minnie61650! That is what I thought. However, I have heard a few stories of people calling to apply the AP rate and being charged based on the new '08 system. Keeping my fingers crossed that my ressie will be okay!

I guess we'll change how often we vacation at WDW. We've been so many times but I guess we'll try Universal or other. I'm so discouraged. It doesn't seem right to change a confirmed reservation regardless of what the fine print states. I'm going to cry.

They tell you all over the site and on the phone that all rates are subject to change without notice. THAT is your notice. I booked a room only reservation for February 2008 and was told specifically that they would be contacting me when the new rates were posted so I could send the rest of the deposit. It didn't matter to me because I knew I would be cancelling it and getting a package ASAP.

I know you're disappointed, but you were warned.

Did she make a reservation for the wrong number of people?

There is no doubt he knew the # of people who needed to go since he was on the phone with her for 1/2 hour trying to find an open resteraunt for 25. The CM is either a liar or a moron, there is no other choice. My aunt stated many times how many there would be. The places they said we could go she wanted to know the # of tables we would all have to sit in... which always added up to 25. If you want to defend Disney fine, they hired someone who didn't want to do their job. Happens in every bussiness reguardless of how good their HR is. But to defend him is just turning a blind eye.

The rest of you want to insult me because of the "free" dining plan...

I will make this simple and than drop the whole thing because most of you are so in love with disney you can't see the forest from the trees.

If all 4 people were to go the entire time Disney would have to cough up the whole meal plan. That is included with what I paid. There is no disputing that. I bought that and that is what is coming to me.

And PLEASE do not try and say "its free!"

We are all adults here and I think we all know "nothing is free". They offer this meal plan to make $ during slow seasons. If they did not make $ off of it they would not do it. I chose to go at the cheap time and that is one of the perks of it.

If you want to get picky we pay for this plan by taking kids out of school and going at a time people when people do not like to go because of the heat (and every other reason why this is the slow season). Disney knows people do not like to do that so they give you incentive to go at the time.

So, for those in the cheap seats... NOTHING IS FREE!

No, its not free but the dining plan is a package and all guests need to be present at check in order to obtain the dining credits.

You have the choice of keeping the "kids " on your ressie so they can get "free " dining for the days they coming or you can do what I did a couple years ago when our DD (who was a college student at the time) wanted to join us for a long weekend. We were staying 10 days and we were booked with the "free" dining plan.

After we checked in we told the CM at the front desk that our DD was coming in a couple of days and would be staying with us for 3 nights. When she arrived we checked her in ,paid the extra adult fee so she stay with us and then we paid for her meals Out Of Pocket during her stay.

It worked for us.

I hope you are able let go of some of the anger you have been venting on these boards. I hope you and your grand gathering can still have fun at Disney!:hippie:
