Hi everyone,

Sorry if this has been asked a lot already, but I keep getting a server error when I try to search this forum.

Knowing that it will rain a lot at WDW in August, how can I keep my DSLR and other gear dry? I have a small Tamrac backpack. It should be fine for light rain, but I worry about heavy downpours.

Likewise, is there something good I can put the whole backpack inside of when we go on the Kali River Rapids? Is there such thing as a giant Zip Lock bag?

:thanks:

I use a LowePro All Weather (AW) which comes with a rain cover. But for places like the rapids and splash mountain I will tuck the case into a large ziplock (for my smaller bag) or wrap it well in a kitchen trach bag (for my larger case)... and will fit it in to whatever carry bag we have.

There is always room in the larger bag because it usually had the ponchos we are wearing on the ride :rotfl2:

I fold a target bag in my pocket and have an extra in my camera bag.

If it stops raining you throw it away.

Works like a charm.

I take a kitchen sized garbage bag along in my case and will wrap my camera in it and fold the end over and place it back in the case. That'll work unless you go swimming with it!

REI and other outdoor stores carry several 'levels' of dry bags. The lowest level is fine for a downpour or Kali River, the highest level (for kayaking) will keep your gear dry even underwater.

I carry a lightweight medium level bag and it works great. I also carry a nylon poncho in rainy season and keep my camera bag (and camera, out of the bag) under the poncho. It has not gotten wet even in some of those legendary Florida storms.

I also carry a plastic garbage bag for emergencies. Cheap and waterproof!

As far as Kali goes, they have the thing in the center that closes to keep things dry that actually works really well (but be sure to take your stuff out...I've seen countless things left in there from cameras to purses). When it comes to just keeping it dry in the rain, I'm of little help. I always have my camera out (and I mean always) so when it rains I'm the wacko you see walking the parks with a camera hidden in their shirt and standing in the middle of Main Street taking countless pictures of the castle despite the downpours.

I go into one of the stores and ask for a plastic bag.
