how can i love the beach club when i've never been there!!??

i am thinking of considering 250 points (split into 125 each) at BC

does that seem reasonable?

i'd still pick up a couple of extra pts and go for 260 to have a little margin, but it depends on your situation.

I was told that there is a very limited amount of BC points available, which is why i feel pressured...:scared1:..i dont want to loose out on a resort i love....

they are constantly re-acquiring BCV pts through foreclosures and ROFR (if someone negotiates a great deal for a BCV resale, DVC can step in and take it away at the agreed-on price). don't worry about it...take at least a week or so to learn about what you are doing before you fork over 5 figures in cash...

we also have a june 2012 dream cruise booked, so i can use my first year and bonus points toward that

you probably can but cruises are typically not a great value in using your pts.

what is a use year??

There are no tours of BCV, but if they are agreeable, you *might* be able to get a CM to show you an open room. The DVC sales center is at SSR and last I knew they still had BLT and AKV models to view.

Points are generally 211-255 for a week for those time frames, but remember you don't have to stay for 7 days (a week) - the weekly price on the charts is simply the daily price multiplied out.

Besides the pool differences (no one has a pool like SAB), the real difference in the resorts is that there is more activity at BC. The pool and restaurants draw quite a crowd. It always seems so hectic at the main buildings. The BCV are somewhat separated from the main building so they are more quiet than the rest of the resort.

OKW and SSR are just more laid back. OKW definitely has the tropical island feel and SSR has more of a country club atmosphere. SSR is getting a second feature pool so it will have two from you to choose from.

If you aren't sure, I would visit first and then select the resort you like best. You can still walk around each resort without staying there. But it would be up the CM at the front desk as to whether there are any villas for you to see. It would be a 50/50 chance that you get into a 1BR for a look see.

Many will tell you that being able to walk to Epcot and DHS is a big factor for BCV. But until your children older, EPCOT won't hold their interest much. And although many say you can walk to DHS, few people do. But many do ride the boats to DHS.

ty ty one and all

yes, the CM i am working with is at SSR, the nicest guy

i will try to stay at a mod resort for a weekend
hope for an open room, and a CM who has the time, or is willing to show us a room, that would be great

i am more looking forward to checking out the layout of the resort, pool area, proximity/walk to epcot, dining

seeing a room would be a big bonus:)

i will be readig over many prevous poss trying to educate and not complicate!!!
wish me luck
and againthanx for all of your insigtful replies/advice:flower3:

I would go visit b/4 purchasing and here is why. I know people love SAB and the Beach/Yacht Clubs. Based on reviews, etc, we booked there this past November. We stayed 1st at OKW, which I expected to be just ok. We loved OKW. It was a relaxed little corner of Disney in the midst of the manhem and crowds that represent Disney. Easy boat ride to DTD. Easy bus ride to parks. Nice sit down and counter service restaurant. We were very happy and relaxed just hanging out at OKW.

We also booked the Yacht Club for the last night of our stay, had a fantastic upgrade (the Presidential Suite!) :woohoo: and expected the world based on what we had read.

The Yacht club is gorgeous but SAB was not relaxing at all, to me. It was nice and fun but I could not see my kids for the most part and you have to get out of one pool to go the next and then cross over bridges to get from one viewing/seating are to the next. I did not like that my kids had to leave the fenced area and cross the public boardwalk to get to the entrance to the slide. And despite it all, there really is just one slide, which all the rest have as well. All three kids said the slide hurt their back yet we could not get them off the slide at OKW and SSR in the past.

Yes, it also has a lazy river which is neat. And I did love the location. Based on the location, if it were not for the Clown slide, I would buy at at the Boardwalk (I know, I have issues with evil happy clowns).

To be honest, based on having now visited, I would not buy at the Beach Club, although I realize I am in the minority. I also realize everyone is different and my family's needs will change as my chidlren age. But when push came to shove we were just happier at OKW and equally happy at SSR.

Awesome post!! :woohoo:

this is exactly what im thinking!!!!!
btw......i dont like CLOWNS at all!! its a total freak out for me!!

the problem is that the earliest i can go to visit is june
i am afraid there will not be any BC points left
i also want a use year of december
we have a cruise booked for next june, and it just works out better, i think??:confused3

should i be concerned to wait until june to buy on sight when my dh andi are actually there??
i would be much more comfortanble with that, but im so afraid of loosing out on this resort??

Stormalong bay pool is not a relaxing pool, it is a theme park pool. Beach Club Villa's has it's own pool and alot of people will go there since it isn't as crowded and you can keep a better eye on your kids there. It has a hot tub too just like Stormalong does, so to me having both pool options is nice.

If you wait to buy in June, and you buy direct, you will only have to pay the dues for the part of the year that is left. If you buy now, you'll be paying from when you buy.

We had to wait to buy points for our Use Year direct from DVC, but eventually we got all of the points we want. The BCV points that they have now will not be the last ones they have to sell.

I just called 2 days ago about direct purchase. $100 a point. No dues for my 1st year. Low closing. $500 gift card and extra bonus don't know what we get for that until we put down money. August use year. 160 from 2010 and 160 in August. Loved the guide I spoke to.

What resort???

I don't think there is any reason to be afraid. Beach Club Villa points should almost always be available via resale and with Disney unfortunately having to foreclose on Beach Club Villa owners I am sure they will always have points as well.

Best of luck to you.

ok.....i am feeling better about waiting, as i would prefer to see/experience the resort first hand......as you all know...its quite an expense for 260 points!
we will go down early june:lovestruc

one more thing....as long as i buy direct, i will be able to put my points toward disney cruise as well, correct?

we are planning/hoping to get a december use year. after some reading, i am not as concerned with that month as originally thought, as i understand, it will only be a problem if i need to cancel right??

any other topics i should review consider before we move foward??

much thanks

I think BCV is the best! I noticed that TSS has a loaded contract for 150 pts. You could buy that now and be grandfathered into the points changes, then add on later thru Disney and decide if you want more BCV pts.or something else.

thanks guys!

dishappy.......thanks for your advice.....but i am new to this, and i do not understand what that means, TSS, adding on, grandfathered into changes, loaded contract:confused3

does anyone have the time to explain? i would appreciate it so much!
thanks

ok,,,so i figured out TSS..ha ha!:rotfl:
but i think i need to buy direct if i want to use points for a cruise
can anyone confirm that for me??

There's currently a window that if your contract goes through ROFR (Disney's right to buy it if they want---it can take no more than 30 days to decide) before the end of March, then the points are grandfathered in and are the same type of points as if you were to buy them from Disney (at a higher price).

The contract I noticed was 150 pts., August UY, with banked points (ie. "loaded"), so the first year you get 300 pts. to use as you want. You can see the listings at the top of the page under "DVC resales".'

However, never a good idea to buy on a whim. Make sure you investigate the pros and cons first.
