How Can I Find the Best Price for Universal Hotels?

Never stayed at any of the official Universal resort hotels (Hard Rock, etc.) but I am looking for 3 nights the first week of January.
They are even more expensive than Disney hotels. At least Disney has a good discount going on at that time.
I tried Hotwire, Expedia and the official Universal website.

Are there any tricks to getting a discounted rate?

As per my knowledge best way is online check. just find on Internet. by various web site give you good information and you can compare also. some travel and hotel website have online chat also. otherwise check travel books and get good information about universal hotel.

If you are a AAA member, they have discounts, but you must call the reservation number to get a AAA rate. They don't show AAA discounts online.

They have decent AP rates, it may be worth getting an AP if you can make a second trip in the year you have the pass.

Remember that all the Universal hotels are deluxe hotels. When you look at their pricing, compare them to the Disney deluxes that are within walking distance of the parks.

For the dates of Jan 4-7, you can get Royal Pacific for $169 and Portofino for $174 with an annual pass. Annual passes are $229 with a yearly renewal rate of $149. Annual passes also give you discounts on food and merchandise within the parks and Citywalk. It might be worth your while to look into that.
