How busy is Mem Day for DVC?

We're taking a family trip in May on a Fri-Mon. I'd prefer Memorial Day weekend, so my son will only miss one day of school. Is it a lot busier than the two previous weekends? Will it be harder to book DVC at 7 mo? My first choice is a Grand Villa at OKW. 2nd choice is a 1BR & 2BR at AKV, preferably value. Thanks for the help!

Yep, it will be hard getting a grand villa for that time at seven months. But since you are there for the weekend, you have a little better odds. And the AKV value villa may be even more difficult.

The only time we've gone over Memorial Day was 2000. We much prefer the first two weeks of May.

You might be plesantly surprised on the grand villa. My friend just booked one at OKW at the 7 month mark for Feb vacation. I did not think he stood a chance of getting one but he did.

Yes, it's alot busier than the other weekends in May. It's also hotter - usually uncomfortably so. For a long weekend trip I'd just take the kid out of school for a day and go when it's much nicer (early May) in terms of crowds AND weather...and availability.

7 month availability isn't hard, but it's not likely you'll get a grand villa for a holiday weekend at that point. The value AKV is hit or miss...it's not uncommon to be able to get it at 7 months - your odds would increase if it was not a holiday weekend.

We went over Memorial Day in 2009 - only booked a studio tho so can't tell ya about the GV thing. Decided on the trip in Feb. There were several resorts available by the time we called but decided to go "home" to SSR. Crowded - a little, yes - but no worse than July or August when we usually go for a whole week. (It was Star Wars and Flower & Garden Festival when we went.) It was NOT hot at all. We had temps in upper 70's & low 80's during the daytime & 60's at night. It was a nice weekend to go...would go again at that time if DS didn't have other obligations messing us up (required attendance at a spring band concert / trip).

We did arrive on the Sunday before Memorial Day at OKW this year. The resort was full and there weren't very many one bedroom villas available to choose from and none in the area we had hoped for. The CMs at the desk looked a little frazzled.

We ended up having to cancel a Spring Break trip at the last minute and went into those holding point thing. So, from 1st week in April to Memorial Weekend, we were able to get a 1 bedroom at SSR for Fri to Mon. Sorry, don't know about the others.
