We are planning our first DVC WDW trip for Dec '08. We own at SSR but would like to maybe stay at AKV, studio with SV. Do you think we have a chance at 7 months out? What are prime times for DCV? Is the first or second week in December pretty difficult to book? TIA for your help!

In December the new AKV ahould be open, so your chances might be better than you've imagined. GL!

The first half of December is really busy for DVC. The points are at their lowest and the Christmas decorations are up. I would recommend making a reservation at your home resort and then trying to change at the 7-month window. At least you know you have a place to stay. Be sure to call 11 months out. I have seen posts where people waited just a couple of weeks past the 11-month window who had to waitlist.

Thanks for the info! Now I have another question. I've seen people making DVC reservations day by day as opposed to whole trip at a time. Why is that beneficial? We are so new to DVC (Owners since 9/28/07), and I am trying to understand everything. Thanks!

That's beneficial because at certain times of year for certain resorts and/or room types there are far more members trying to get a room than there is inventory of that room type at that resort.

We don't typically call day by day unless we are trying to get a GV or are booking a holiday time. If you wish to travel in the first two weeks of December (I highly recommend that) and want to book at your home SSR, I would wait until the checkout day. For the AKV SV studio....Who knows at 7 months, since we haven't had a year there yet. I'd say book your home resort and try to change over at the 7 month mark. That way you have a place to stay either way. AKV will be more available after 2009 when the new building starts to open up.

I can only speak about SSR for Dec 2007. We booked at around 7 1/2 months out (home resort, just joined) and had no problem booking a two bedroom and a sudio. We had to wait list at 5 months another mid-week studio for in laws for two nights, but that came through in a couple of weeks.

I doubt you need to call every day for most of the SSR rooms.

We booked at SSR 11mos out for Dec7/14-07. I called at 7mos for VWL. Waitlisted entire stay and it came through in May!! Book at your home resort and waitlist what you really want. Good luck

The first week in Dec is really busy in the MK due to holiday parade taping.

Good luck!

Day by day booking for the first two weeks of December is recommended if you are trying to get into the VWL, the BCV or the BWV.

Not sure if it will be necessary for the AKV or not. If it were me, I'd book the first night as soon as the 7 month window opened. I'd ask MS how availability looked for the restr of my stay. Then I'd either continue booking day by day or just make one more call depending on the CM's advice.
