How big is Disneyland compared to...

Comparing to WB movie world, at a guess, I would say about 2 and a half to 3 times the size. But that's not including California Adventure!!!

Much, much bigger, think HUGE! You will never look at the Gold Coast theme parks in the same way again after a visit to Disney :)

Disneyland has spoiled the Gold Coast theme parks for me, and just make me want to plan a trip back to DL! No comparison.

Thank you. Interestingly on the net I found that movie world is 168ha and disneyland is 65ha.

But I guess that movie world is more spread out, and it may include still undeveloped land.

Wow really, I would never have thought so, I felt like Movie World had not much at all, maybe just lots of land! Disney has reserved land that isn't being used also for future developments, in the words of Walt 'Disneyland will never be complete, so as long as imagination is left in the world' or something on the likes of that ;)

The Gold Coast theme parks? Just trying to visualise it in my head :D

I don't think Disneyland the park is much bigger than the Gold Coast theme parks, but it's designed WAY better and the calibre of the attractions is much higher. WDW though, that's HUGE. You can't even describe just how massive WDW is and people can't seem to grasp it - but I'll try! :rotfl2: I once read that it's TWICE the size of Manhattan. Yep, TWICE the size. It really is it's own little world.

lol,Movieworld is small compared to Disneyland,i'm a gold coast local use to go there all the time, so hard to stop trying to compare it to DL.Just wondering if that land size includes wet'n'wild as well.:rotfl:

WDW sounds so huge, it is actually scary!

But I am sure once I whet my appetite with Disneyland then a WDW trip maybe in future plans.

I agree. If anything, I think that land-wise Dreamworld may be just as big, if not bigger. It's just that the clever layout of Disneyland where you move from land to land, makes it feel quite big.

Movieworld felt very small by comparison, whereas the Currumbin Wildlife Park felt bigger (perhaps because there was a lot of walking between animals).

I just checked online cause I couldn't believe that movieworld could be bigger than Disneyland,
Currently movieworld is around 30hectares, although the parcel of land next to the original studios is 168 hectares. That makes more sense.

That definitely makes more sense, even though I am yet to visit Disneyland it didn't seem like everything could fit into the space that Movie world occupies.

Do I know you RachaelD? I think I do ;) Do you knit? That would confirm it!

You might know who I am if I included a frangipani (on blue background) in my avatar, and we go back to nappy days lol... :D

Back to the original question, I just used "mapfrappe" to overlay an outline of Disneyland (just the DL park, not California adventure, Downtown Disney or the resort hotels/carparks etc) with Movieworld (just the rides area, not the carpark, Wet & Wild, Outback Spectacular, Paradise country up in the hills behind behind etc). Movieworld is less than half the size of just Disneyland (scroll to the second map where the overlay is, scaled to match).

ETA - little bits of movie world are chopped off and other little bits added in for that overlay, but I think the extra missed out/added in would even out.

Haha yes, you sent me my first yarn swap a few years ago :)

I tried looking at the maps earlier today, and goog old google maps satellite view has a big cloud covering movie world. LOL

It's hard to tell with google maps too because the scale used in North America vs Australia isn't quite the same, you can never get them to *quite* match up accurately.

This is DL over Dreamworld, I'm quite surprised how small Dreamworld is in comparison (I would thought Dreamworld would have been bigger than Movieworld, I think of Movieworld as being the smallest of the three main GC parks. Maybe just because I don't really love it that much lol).

And Seaworld. Why not. http://mapfrappe.com/?show=12336
