How big are the city lots in your town?

I know they vary greatly but I was watching House Hunters last night and they said something like " Its a nice size lot 40 X 100" WOW I thought our lot was small at 70 X 110!!


Some day Im going to live on a few acres and feel much better lol.


So what are city lots in your area?

The minimum lot size in our town is currently 100x200 (half acre). Our lot is on the corner and is slightly larger than that.

The town of Solon (Ohio) was considering legislation in the mid 1990's to increase their minimum lot size from 0.5 acres to 3.0 acres. The city was growing way too fast and they wanted to limit new home sales to wealthy people. The legislation never passed, so people there are still building on tiny half-acre lots.

Where we are it ranges. 50x100 to 1+ acres. ALot in the .15-.25 acre range. Even those small ones are expensive though...in Rye, NY a recently saw a 1/4 acre lot sell for over $800k (no house on it)

1/4 to 1/5 of an acre is pretty common around here, especially in the older neighborhoods. The newer subdivisions vary more - the pricier ones have 1 acre lots, some of the less expensive ones have almost no land. Beyond city limits there are many areas with 2 acre plots.

I think in our town the minimum lot size is 2 acres. That may have changed. We own 7.25 acres but most is unaccessible (sp?). Lots of woods in the back and a small stream runs through it and makes things rather wet. We bought this lot due to the fact that noone can build behind us. We also have privacy from the neighbors on both sides. We lucked out.
