How bad must it be to cancel mnsshp?

We plan to get tickets for Friday Oct. 8 mnsshp and because that weekend doesn't include a Sunday night party, we'll have no "back-up" date as lots of DIS'ers seem to. I know just about anything can be rained out, but it didn't occur to me before now to worry about this (unless the weather is extreme, which shouldn't be a truly high likelihood?).

So how bad would it have to be? This mnnshp party is why we're choosing to go in Oct. Should I have something else special, non mnnshp up my sleeve just in case? (Though that's tough where reservations, downpayments etc are concerned...) Yep, we can't control the weather and stuff happens and all that, but I'm kind of concerned about potentially crushed 5- and 7-yr-old sons.

Can any experienced mnsshp'ers give me some insight into or encouragement with this? Thanks!! :sunny:

Early October is one of my favorite times of year to visit WDW because the weather is gorgeous! I doubt that rain will play a part in your plans. We were at MNSSHP last year in late October and it was beautiful then as well.

Don't know what will happen if it rains - just wanted to let you know that it shouldn't be a problem for you. Have a great time!!!

Thanks guys!! Y'all are comforting indeed. I'm just about ready to take off my worry hat, LOL.

I've only heard of (rare) torrential rains making one MVMCP party very unpleasant 2 years ago. Many people either went to another party in the week (exchanged their tickets at Guest Services) or got a refund.

That is the only time I've heard of this happening.

The party went on as planned but the parade was cancelled and the fireworks and special shows too.

This is good to know Beattyfamily -- and it further helps that confidence lapse I was having! Also wanted to tell you all your mnsshp advice on these boards has helped a lot in our planning.

YES I WAS THERE!!! You know it was HORRIBLE rain, but me and my kids stuck it out and saw a couple shows & rode all the rides. It was our only day to go, because the Friday night was sold out & we were leaving on Sunday so we couldn't go to the Sunday night party. Disney was nice and refunded our money since they cancelled all the outdoor shows & the parade.

But we still had fun even though there wasn't a dry spot on our bodies (even with umbrellas & ponchos).

Last year I booked 2 MVMCP's just in case!!

This was very unusual weather for December. It may rain a little during you MNSSHP, but they won't cancel it. And as long as the rain isn't pouring, they will also to the parade.

;) :D ,
