How bad is San Angel Inn?

The last time we went (2 years ago) we walked out without ordering anything. Neither of us were happy with the menu options. Wait staff ignored us, but were attentive to tables of single ladies. It was disappointing because it was the restraint we remember and loved the most from our honeymoon.

Can I ask what you were looking for that wasn't on the menu?

I wouldn't call it BAD but IMO it's way overpriced and there are a lot of better options. If you want MX food I would go to La Hacienda if it's available. In January we went to San Angel Inn on a LAST MINUTE reservation we grabbed online 30 minutes before. We had orig. planned on eating a counter service dinner but it was FREEZING out and we wanted something INSIDE and WARM and there was an opening so we grabbed it as the timing was right. Our adult DS ordered the steak. Could barely cut thru it. And it was so tiny. It was also so dark in there that we had to turn the flashlights on our phones on to read the menu. YMMV but we're not fans.

We loved the food and the atmosphere. I remember it taking a long time to get our food though.

I think there is nothing bad about San Angel Inn. We enjoyed all our meals there. We have it booked again next month for our Garden Rocks meal.
Maybe the bad reviews come because so many expect a meal like they get in their strip mall Mexican restaurant. It is nothing like that

I've eaten here 3 times and all three times I've enjoyed myself! The last time I visited was in January and my mom wasn't thrilled with her meals but she didn't understand what she ordered lol

I say go for it!

After years of should we/shouldn't we, my parents and I finally had lunch there last September. I was most worried by dad wouldn't find anything he'd like, but he had the steak (which I knew he'd eat) and chilaquiles - and he even ate most of the chilaquiles. I can't remember what my mom had, but I know she pretty much cleaned her plate, and i had the 3 steak tacos (but swapped out the red sauce for the green. My only complaint is that we had a wheelchair for my mom and there wasn't a whole lot of space to maneuver.

We love San Angel Inn! It's definitely one of my favorite WDW restaurants. To me, it represents classic WDW theming at its finest. We like to book either lunch or early dinner to best guarantee a seat by the water. Service has always been welcoming and attentive. I've only ever eaten their tacos & enchiladas, but I've always enjoyed them. The only menu item I've not cared for was the strange "chips" they serve with the guacamole.

Phew!!! I saw the title of this thread and was concerned since SAI is our Epcot restaurant this year. Glad that many people had good experiences. We've looked over the menu and understand it's not going to be Tex Mex so that shouldn't be a problem for us. Glad to hear the drinks are good. The atmosphere is to our liking. Hopefully we'll have a good meal.

I know I am in the minority but I LOVE San Angel Inn! Love the dark atmosphere and margaritas.

Not necessarily in the minority. There seems to be a very vocal group of disenchanted visitors for San Angel. Also for Coral Reef as well.

We ate there for the first time a couple weeks ago and we really enjoyed it. The sign in area is a bit chaotic, but I thought the food was great.

That and the Dis Board podcast guys really trashed it too. That didn't help any.
Though I'll tell you a secret, I hope it stays unpopular to the point that they keep it like it is but it stays easy to get in. Don't want the "masses" figuring out how good it really is. May be hard to get in.

As for Coral Reef, I finally broke down and tried it. On my birthday nonetheless. It deserved every bad review I've read on it. Blech.

My family used to really like it, but we haven't been there in years partially because of poor service and also because we've just found other restaurants in World Showcase we prefer.
This would almost be us. We ate there several times and were disappointed in the service and the fact that the tables are crammed so close together that you almost have to take turns breathing. We also found other restaurants that we prefer and haven't been back in a few years.
