How bad is MK on a Saturday?

During our week (Mar 5 - 11), Spectro will be shown on Saturday and Monday evenings. We'll arrive Saturday around noon, and I'd really like to go to MK for the late afternoon and evening. Would it be better for us to wait until Monday for Spectro?

Hi! We're going the week before you and kind of doing the same thing on Saturday. From reading the UG, I'm thinking that the crowds will be pretty bad, however-they should not be at maximum capacity. They suggest that since Spectro is shown twice (8 and 10), you should ride rides during the first one and sit to watch the second as the crowds will be smaller then. That's our plan- I still think dealing with crowds at Disney is better than being at work! Then we don't have to worry about whether we catch Spectro later in the week.
Hope that helps!

I didn't know that Spectro was shown twice. I'll check our date and see if it will be shown twice that day as well. How long does it usually last? I'm just wondering what time we will be back in our hotel getting the five year old to sleep.

If your sole purpose of going into MK on Saturday is to watch Spectro then it shouldn't be too bad. Just get there an hour before and grab a spot along the curb on Main Street. However, if you wanting to do rides and meet characters along with doing Spectro I wouldn't expect to get much accomplished in a short amount of time.

Just back from a week at WDW, and our Saturday (1/29) was brutal for MK. We went to Animal Kingdom all morning, then tried out MK after a light lunch....it was absolute craziness. The largest crowds we'd seen at any WDW park in our last three trips. All lines were huge. After an hour, we left, headed for Epcot, and had a great time in much smaller crowds. MK was just fine every other day of our trip, light crowds and short lines, but Saturday is brutal there. Mental note!

One night later in the week, we tried to catch SpectroMagic, but ended up about 8 rows back from Main Street near the popcorn stand...it was brutally crowded and we could see nothing but the tops of the lighted floats. Quite a disappointment.....I'd suggest staking out a seat on the Main Street curb as early as you can if you want to see it all.

I think Saturdays always tend to more crowded, because a lot of the locals come on the weekend.
