How bad is it?

I am reading a lot of posts from people who are commenting on how much some of the ride refurbs and construction in areas of the park have really detracted from the usual ambiance of the park. Is it really that bad? We are going in a few weeks with a large family group. All of the adults have been many times, but many of the kids have never been. We are already disappointed with the number of rides that are scheduled to be closed while we are there. Should we also be prepared to deal with frustrations over areas of the park being torn up/blockaded?

We were there last week, aside from a big fence round nemo , and some fence at New Orleans in the back alley , it was not obvious at all. Alice had a little sign stating it was closed.. The same with Indy ,, on Thursday at ISW they were filming, so aside from the crowds for the opening , it was a tight line because they closed off some of the area for filming .
None of the closures had a huge impact on our trip...
I think the people complaining just love to complain, no matter what is open or closed...

Spent the day yesterday. No frustration or disappointment here. We had a great time! We had a few rides break down when we were in line for them, but they were all open the second time around, we just went to something else and came back.

I think it's all about your outlook.

BFF and I went in Jan/Feb, and there were many rides down. I kept seeing people posting about how many rides they were going to miss, how much this brought down their trip, etc. BFF and I were sad about missing a few of them, but--HELLO, IT'S DISNEYLAND! It's the happiest place on earth! Better to be at Disneyland than stuck in a cubical at work!

Honestly, my DD is oblivious to ride closures, and they certainly don't affect her feelings about her beloved Disneyland!

It is noticeable... I was there today and made a comment or two, but I still had a great time!
New Orleans Square is a mess, the path around Alice in Wonderland is blocked, the wall around Finding Nemo is ugly, a green wall with a sign saying Indiana Jones will re-open in Spring of 2014 is funny (it just recently closed, and it is Spring)... I still had a great time today even though I noticed what was wrong. You can focus on the negatives or just have fun. I once saw an article where the author showed a picture of a beautiful marquis with one burned out lightbulb. He said most people would see this marquis and say it looks great! Disney fans see the burned out lightbulb and say this is horrible, their entire day is now ruined! I have to agree with him, we need to go with the flow better.

I remember going to DCA during the huge refurb of the park and Carsland , etc. Now THAT was much more noticeable in my opinion than what is going on at DLR. Obviously it's a matter of perspective but I do remember the winding blue walls of DCA made it annoying to get anywhere , but we still had a fantastic time.

I admit I get annoyed easily at things but something about being at Disneyland..It just rolls right off my back. It's difficult I know for everyone to adopt that way of feeling or thinking and no way is more right or wrong than the other. I just personally try to focus on everything I CAN do while I am there.

If you live somewhat close to DL and go more than one a year or once every few years these closures are no big deal. If you are a family that has spent years saving and planning or you only get to make that one special trip a year due to distance or other circumstances your outlook might be a bit different.
Saying people wanna complain just to complain is rather short sided.

I honestly tried to not plan a trip this year but I'll be darned if that dang Disneyland allure didn't pull me back in. It's like having an addiction.
in 2010 I took my family for under $2500.00. Each year my addiction gets a little stronger and last year I spent $7000.00 on our trip. I have a feeling it's gonna keep getting worse until someone performs an intervention. I don't know how you people who stay on property do it. buncha Richey Riches on this board.

We're here now and do not notice anything unusual. It's a real pity for us that Indiana Jones is down but that's just bad luck as it's one of THE major attractions for us.

However everything else has been great and Cars Land is amazing. Disney should really pull their fingers out and build one at WDW.

When we were there a couple weeks ago, Small world, Nemo, Arial and Indy were down. It really wasn't that bad. We had so much fun and so much other stuff to do that it didnt even matter.

Not bad at all. You will have a blast. :)

ETA: It is nothing like when they did cars land. That was worse. So if you went during that time, and remember that, it is so much better then that. (Cars land was totally worth it though~!)

Every time I've gone there has been some sort of walled off refurb (Carsland, Ariel ride, BTMRR, and now Nemo and Alice, as well as NOS). Only the big Carsland wall was bothersome to me. The current walled off/construction areas didn't bother me in the least. IASW, Ariel, and Indy had no ugliness, they're just closed.

Well if you start with the thought "How bad is it?" it's probably going to be pretty bad. :sad2:

Well, the Nemo lagoon is tiny so that's just in a tiny corner of the park....

oh wait....

The California Adventure construction was much worse... That construction even stopped me from going to California Adventure at times.
I am not disregarding the feelings of those who need to save to have a huge trip to Disneyland. In fact when I said earlier that I made a comment or two about the construction those comments dealt with how this would upset me if I spent a lot of money to take a vacation here. :-)
You can still have a lot of fun though... Remember, you are at Disneyland and Big Thunder mountain is reopened! :-)
