How bad is Epcot security if you use the monorail?

I have read that getting through security at Epcot's main entrance has been a nightmare at times. Does taking the monorail save any time once you get to Epcot? Do you go through security before you get on the monorail? We are staying at BLT so will most likely utilize the monorail to get back and forth to Epcot. It's been a loooooooong time since I've been to Disney - way before they put any security or bag check in place. Thanks!

No, unless it's changed now with all the construction, the security check point is after you get off the monorail at Epcot. It can get a long line in waves, as monorails come in (and it used to share the same lines with parking lot guests too...not sure if that's changed with construction). However, it moves fast, shouldn't be more than 5-10 minutes.

From BLT, you’ll go through security twice - once at the CR monorail entrance before boarding the Resort Monorail, then again at the Epcot entrance when you exit the Epcot Monorail. An unfortunate byproduct of the current monorail exit configuration at Epcot.

This is presumably being addressed with the abundant construction currently going on at the Epcot front entrance (as part of other major entrance changes), but that project has a ways to go.

I find the Epcot security entrance can be really slow/annoying in the AM but is pretty easy going during other parts of the day.

When we stay at CR, sometimes we opt for a taxi/rideshare/Minnie Van for either coming or going to Epcot if we’re in any sort of time crunch just to avoid the monorail transferring and such.

While it can be annoying, I wouldn't call it a nightmare, and it's possible to run into long lines at any of the parks depending on the circumstances. Epcot is probably the worst right now with the construction, but I don't think it's all that bad.
What actually tends to slow me down is the line to get into the park at the turnstiles. Between people not having the correct passes or not having their stuff linked correctly, that's actually where I get stuck the most. Epcot again is bad right now as they have only a portion open with the construction.

Like others have said, it won't save you any time. When you switch to the Epcot monorail at the TTC you leave the security envelope of the parks, and have to go through security again when you get to Epcot. It's the same entrance as everyone else. Haven't been since Feb, so not sure how construction has affected things. Never really felt like Epcot security was worse than any other parks first thing when the park opens. They all back up a fair bit.

You will always go through security before you board the monorail at the TTC or any hotel. When you arrive at Epcot, there is a security line you need to go through before entering the park. We were there a few months ago and the wait time for security wasn't that bad. Bag check lines tend to always be a bit longer at all of the parks then the line for those without a bag.

Unless the Epcot construction moves the monorail dropoff to inside the security area, you will continue to need to go through park security lines.

Security is never that bad for us, at epcot or anywhere else. Usually doesn't take much more than 5 min. We don't arrive to the parks until afternoon, though. Maybe the people that say it's a "nightmare" are arriving with the ropedrop crowds? We did epcot last Monday, and hopped to MK using the monorail. It was easy.

I'm one of those who find EPCOT's bag check to be a nightmare. We also stay at BLT so it's extra annoying that you have to go through security twice, once before you get on the monorail, and once when you get off. And it's not like there's a separate monorail bag-check…everyone all kind of smashes together...

The above picture was taken at 7:50 am on a day with EMH, but we had already waited at least 20 minutes at this point. It was a good 15 minutes from here. My advice would be that if you are attempting to get there for park opening, I'd leave at least 75 minutes early.

Wow! It never looks like that when we arrive! I guess we miss all that by arriving later.

While it may not be to that extreme later in the day, last month I found it just as bad coming back from my midday break around 4ish as it was at rope drop. Bag check lines at Epcot are always terrible for some reason, more than the other parks and it seems like it’s gotten worse. One of the reasons I’m looking forward to staying at BC using the IG my next trip.

We were at EPCOT 9/25. Went through security/bag check before boarding the monorail at the Polynesian. Then when we arrived at EPCOT, it became apparent that we were going to have to go through security again to enter the park, and it was a huge sea of people. We quickly reconfiguered our belongings so the kids and I could enter through the "Guests w/o bags" line, which had no wait. That left my husband with the stroller and bags waiting in the security line. I brought the kids into the park and got in line to meet Pluto, and my husband joined us just as we were getting to the front of the line. In all, it took him a good 25-30 minutes to get through security. In the name of safety, I guess that's not too bad. But just a little annoying that we had already gone through security once before boarding the monorail.

Once they finish the remodel of the entrance, it will be much better as those getting off the monorail will not go through security at EPCOT.
Until then, you get in line with everyone else entering EPCOT.

Honestly the worst security is at AK. That line takes forever. We go bagless now.
