How bad is Easter week?

We usually go during February recess but am thinking of doing spring break in April 2020 (I know I plan far in advance). Just wondering how bad is Easter? Is it just Easter day that's bad or the whole week? We do good in February with following the crowd calendars, will that work as well in April?

Well it will be pretty busy. But not every school district has that week off. The weekends are always busier then the week. Some just take a long weekend. But definitely plan on it being busy. Don't forget to go to the Grand Floridian and check out their giant Easter eggs the pastry chefs make our of chocolate. They are amazing.

It all depends....And I say that rather loosely.

If your kids are in school, then I'm guessing you'll be going during the week that they are off. This is the good or bad news..
Typically the Friday before Easter till the weekend after are the troublesome ones...High Prices, crowds, Airfare.etc.

I'm sure you don't have the school schedule for 2020 yet, but that's the key..When most schools have that week off, it's very hectic. Our school district for 2 years did something different a few years ago (which worked out well for us.) In 2013 Easter was on 3/31. And our school district had school the immediate week thereafter but gave them off the following. So when I booked , I had plane tix for the Friday, right after school(Cheap) until the following week. Everything was inexpensive & lines were very good.. 2 years later, Easter was on 4/05..And the school district had the week prior to the week leading up to EASTER. While we didn't do WDW that time of year, we did do an indoor water park for 3 nights and some other things, and got tremendous deals, which I'm sure would've been the same down there too.

Those are just a few of the factors that come into play....Certain deals and stuff also bring people in, but not terribly...HTH

Thanks for the info. My daughter is actually a school teacher so that's why we try and stick to the off times from school. Schools up here are usually off the week leading up to Easter or the week after Easter. We did spring break when she was in high school but it wasn't linked to Easter so wasn't sure if the crowds had changed.

Our kids always have the 2nd full week of March off, regardless of Easter. Some years Easter is so late that they get spring break a few weeks before the end of school.

Last year we went the Thursday after Easter and then again in the middle of the summer. The Easter week felt much busier. If I can avoid it, I won’t go that close to Easter again.

We've been only once during Easter and its been a few years ago, the Saturday before just seemed like any Saturday during the summer. Sunday morning we went to EPCOT and it was absolutely empty. Have never seen the park or any park so empty in my life. After lunch however, the crowds arrived and it got really really crowded. Monday morning after at the MK was pretty crowded as well. We flew out Monday afternoon so I don't know about the rest of the week.

There was a thread maybe two weeks old on this subject, fairly long with lots of opinions in there.

Our spring break straddles the last week in March first in April and we happen to be at WDW often during Easter. It's crowded, but...

  • Weather is really nice
  • Longer hours
  • Well staffed
  • Low refurb scheduled, or none.
Downside is yes it's crowded, but we have always seen, rode and experienced what we wanted.

My family and I went last year during Easter week and the crowd levels were crazy IMO..... now no complaining because any time we are in Disney is a great time but it was the first time my wife who is dead set against taking our kids out of school for vacation said she would consider it after seeing these crowds first hand!!!!

Maybe I've become so accustomed to going during Christmas, but Easter did not feel bad at all.

Magic Kingdom was dead the Tuesday after Easter. We went back to Coronado to wait for our Magical Express and it was eerily quiet. We had never seen Disney like that before. It felt like an apocalypse.

I think it'll depend on how Spring Breaks fall. It was crowded at Epcot on Saturday, but dead on the Monday after Easter.

We're going this time also and my plans are for us to hit MK on Saturday, Epcot Easter Sunday, HS Monday and AK Tuesday. If we decide to do any parks on our check out day before driving back, we'll hit MK once more. I'm hoping to see low crowds in HS and AK possibly or at least lower than the weekend.

Thanks everyone! I will wait to see what the school calendars say when they come out but probably will give it a shot. Would really like to try for Flower and Garden since we haven't been there during that time in a few years. Sorry if the subject was already covered in a different thread.

We went over Easter weekend (Thursday - Monday) last year and it wasn't bad at all. Made use of rope drop & EMH, and it never felt extremely crowded. Weather was idyllic. I think the later Easter is, the better the crowds are.

Sounds cool! Does GF only do this on Easter day or will they do it the week before Easter also? :)

We went over Easter 2014. The Magic Kingdom was very crowded - the little area between It's a Small World and Peter Pan was shoulder to shoulder all week long. The rest of the parks seemed to handle the crowds better. I would say getting there for rope drop and utilizing fast passes were pretty critical in order to get things done. We did have a good time - you just have to go with the right expectations.
