For those who have been in August could you please give me a quick rundown of what to expect, I mean I know it will be hot, but how bout crowds and stuff.

Is the heat and crowds the only thing I need to worry about?
Can't be as bad as X-mas and New Years.

Thanks

Crowds depend on what part of August you go. Earlier in the month it is a little more crowded but not the huge before 4th of July crowds. Park hours are still late summer hours. By the middle of the month crowds are lighter, but park hours reflect that and parks start to close earlier.

The weather is hot and humid with afternoon rain showers.

Southern schools go back in session in early August. Crowds usually are much lower by mid-August. We went the last week in August several years ago and were pleasantly surprised at how *uncrowded* the parks were!

Hi there... we were there for 2 weeks August 2003 & August 2002... crowds were not bad at all, light in fact - we would arrive about the 16 for 2 weeks.

Hotter than Hades though... really.. REALLY hot and everyday afternoon thunderstorms that pass quickly and cool it off a little for the evenings.
(Like from 100+ to 92 LOL)

I just posted a bit ago about our last August trip,,lol. Was the first week in August, so still pretty crowded.

We didn't go into any of the parks before 3:00 in the afternoon on any given day. We generally would get out just after a nice rainstorm, and after huge amounts of people would be leaving the parks due to the rain, or having been out there all day in the hot sun. Do e-ride nights at the MK, and avoid it during the day if at all possible during the hottest parts of the day. It's just not necessary to torture yourself like that.

Have a plan and know what everyone in your party wants to see, and do before heading out, and you will find that things just fall into place.

With the exception of the Animal Kingdom, most of the parks are open late enough to enjoy them once it's cooled off.

General rule, the earlier in August the more crowded from summer crowds it will be. It will also be hot, I mean very Hot no matter when in August and its the raining season so many days will have a rain shower in the afternoon.

Agree that HOT is the main thing to deal with. We were there mid-to late month and didn't have much in the way of rain, but mostly spent afternoons back at the resort/pool - it was just too hot to be out. Mornings and evenings were fine however, and the parks were still open fairly late. Crowds were quite manageable but this was the week after the 1st hurricane hit last year so don't know if that's typical. But think you're better off mid-month or later as many schools in the east have started back by then. You might also check to see when value season is for your resort category to help $!
Have fun!

I have only been to disney in August (1995,2001,2002,2003,2004) and while it is hot, my family and I are not too bothered by it, as a matter of fact I sort of like that weather. Just make sure you have plenty of water to drink. As for the crowds, I haven't had a problem with them either. We usually use fastpass and ride one ride while we are waiting for the fastpass time to come up. The only problems that i have ever experienced and it was the first time this past august is the water parks reaching capacity in the afternoon and having to wait until 2 or 3 to go back to them.Anyway, I enjoy it in August, but I don't have anything to compare it too either since that is the only month i have ever been.
