I have everything that I need to do done - with the exception of one more package to wrap that will be delivered this week (I was originally told it wouldn't be available until after Christmas) - and the cookie baking with my DGD - which will be either Saturday or Sunday..:santa:

No Christmas tree up yet though - there's a legitimate reason (long story) - but with any luck it will go up on Sunday.. DD and her DH both still have shopping and wrapping to do, but they've had a lot going on (Dson-in-law is knocking himself out trying to get the remodeling of his parents kitchen done before Christmas Eve - and DD has been sick off and on with one of her chronic health problems) - not to mention some of DGD's activities have had to take priority over other things (school concerts and such)..

I'm sure it will all get done in time - it always does - but looking at the calendar can be nerve wracking - LOL..

How's it going with you? :santa:

It's not going at all with us.

DD16 has been here at Children's Nat'l Medical Center for 6 weeks now, with no discharge date in sight yet. We will not have Christmas without her, so we just have not done anything...no decorating the house, no tree, no parties, no cookie baking, nothing. Over the past 3 months (prior to this hospital admission 6 weeks ago, she was admitted 4 other times this fall) I've only been in my house about a dozen times for a few hours here & there.

She does not like to have reminders that she will be here on Christmas, so we don't really talk about it (she still talks about the Thanksgiving dinner that we have not had yet). Then it had to START SNOWING today, which has depressed her even more. :sad1:

I'm thinking of deleting my FaceBook page for awhile, because I'm tired of reading everyone's complaints about how they have so much shopping, wrapping, cooking, etc. to do. Good grief. Sorry to be such a downer, but there's not much to be happy about.

DaisyDuck, I'm sorry to hear about your dd. I hope she'll be better soon.

I finished all of my shopping last night! Cards were sent 2 days ago, and decorations have been up since Thanksgiving weekend.

The one, and big thing, I have to do is start a grocery list and start baking/organizing meals. We have 3 big meals to make, and zero cookies baked so far.

I am so sorry, my heart and prayers go out to you. Even though there is none of the normal activities going on I am glad you are together as a family. Merry Christmas to your whole family. Jo

So sorry DaisyDuck, I hope it gets better for you soon.

For me, we are slowing down and getting ready to slide into the relaxing part of the season. Just a little of wrapping to do. My kids start school vacation tomorrow so I am taking 2 weeks off as well.

:hug: Prayers for your DD and your family.

Things are going well with our preparations! Presents are wrapped, in the mail, cookies are made, I've been cleaning bit by bit. :santa:

DaisyDuck:  My DS is 16 and I can't imagine what you're having to go through.

C. Ann: For my holiday preparations, I think I'm doing all right. I have some shopping to do after work tonight, but I'm just beat -- up until 2 am last night making (and wrapping) 360 chocolate covered pretzels (with DS) for his student council sale. Problem was I didn't find about it until Tuesday night, and none of the other student council members showed up to help. My Saran wrap muscles are sore and it hurts to keep my eyes open! It gave DS lessons in leadership, and we did have a good time talking while we were working, so it all worked out.

Gifts mostly bought, but still in the delivery boxes (to keep from prying eyes....), so I have a wrapping session to do -- hopefully DH will take them out somewhere on Saturday. I'm off work next week as well.

I also need to make and ship the gift for my grandmother (who is 90 and in assisted living) -- She's Ukranian, and I'm making a single loaf (you're supposed to have three loaves, one on top of another) of Kolach (Ukranian Christmas Bread) on Thursday, wrapping and Fedexing it first overnight so that she can have it on Christmas eve -- her mother used to make it every year -- thought it would be a nice memory for her.

I also have to do some baking -- Sugar Cookies tomorrow, chocolate chip and oatmeal on Saturday.

Not going really but that is because we are also dealing with stuff here. I have a wreath on the door, a doormat and stockings up and about 4 presents for the girls. Probably will skip the tree this yr.

My sister's MIL is now in the hospital and the next 48hrs will tell us what the course will be. She has sepsis and is in liver failure due to the cancer.
She has refused hospice many times and keeps trying to hang on as long as she can.

Not much into "celebrating" either.

HUGS to you daisyduck.:hug::hug::hug:

All presents have been bought and wrapped. Just got the tree up ... but the stand isn't working right. DH thinks we need to replace it or it will fall. UGH.

Now, just need to buy ingredients for cookies and Christmas brunch at my house.

I am very, very sorry to hear this.. I had no idea..:sad1: You have every right to feel the way you do.. I will keep your DD in my prayers - that she recovers quickly - and that soon you will all be together as a family again..

I can definitely relate to your situation.. My youngest DD was very ill after she was born and basically spent almost the entire first two years of her life in the hospital - including every major holiday and birthday.. I had no desire to do anything - not even a tree (and didn't - until my 1st DH and my mom went out and bought one on Christmas Eve).. I had two other children at home and couldn't very well deprive them (they were far too young to understand), so with others doing the purchasing and the gift wrapping, "Santa" arrived - but my heart wasn't in it.. As soon as the little ones were done with the unwrapping, I went back to the hospital.. That's a very, very difficult situation to be in.. Please give your DD a hug from me - and tell her that I'll be praying for her every night until she returns home..:(

Hugs and prayers to you and the rest of your family too..

Hugs and prayers to you and yours as well.. So sad..:( It's posts like these that really put things into perspective, don't they?? :(

Your sister's MIL will be in my nightly prayers as well.. It doesn't sound good, does it? If nothing else, I hope they can at least keep her comfortable..
:sad1:

I'm behind schedule on cards, but finally stuffing envelopes.

Have to buy a last minute gift for a visitor for Saturday, but that will have to wait.

Have a couple of on-line items to get for a couple of people.

But--we are getting there.

I'm so sorry. How old is she--would a mailing campaign cheer her up? We'd be happy to send something.

:grouphug::grouphug::grouphug: to Daisy and Mystery Machine.

We have outside lights up and some presents bought....and not much else done. Maybe this weekend....

So sorry to hear that.....hope she recovers quickly. If it were my child, I wouldn't be doing anything either.

As for us....everything is done! :yay: Has been for quite awhile. We are still baking cookies, but that is something we just keep doing right up until Christmas Eve no matter how many we have.

daisyduck and mysterymachine

everything here is almost done. just a few more gifts to wrap, one cash gift to send, and one gift card to buy. i'm not able to bake cookies or decorate much, but our tree is up and decorated, and tomorrow is DD's last day of school until january 4th. got to do some house cleaning, because my mom is going to spend Christmas eve with us.
she will be having shoulder surgery soon, and apparently, although i was only informed through the family grapevine, she's planning to stay with me and recover. still trying to figure out how i'm going to take care of her and work.

Not good... may have to cancel my holiday ski trip due to some last minute problems coming up... which I just found out about today. Should know more tomorrow, and if it is going to suck 90 percent of the fun out of my holidays.

I still need to buy 10 gifts, need to buy all the groceries, clean my house which is a complete mess and attend a billion and 4 functions/get togethers.
