Anyone take apple cider vinegar or anything else? I was doing Yoga and walking but havent had the time lately. I keep running in the 140's/90's and I am too young for this mess. Any ideas would great. Thanks!

Im also too young for it - but alas....

My doctor prescribed Norvasc - but honestly, I dont recomend it. I dont feel like myself at all anymore....and Im a complete and utter flake! My memory is all over the place with this stuff. :guilty:

I had heard a banana a day could help... check this out: http://www.gicare.com/pated/edtot43.htm

I'm struggling with this myself. The BP elevation is due to a medication I take for my asthma. So do I breathe or lower my BP? I've spiked as high as 169/112. My BP was always very low, and I don't feel like myself. I'm having pressure in my jaw and dizzy spells, not good at all. I'm probably going to have to go on a medication to lower it, because I don't want to give up the other medication.

I have started the eating a bananna every day thing, too early to tell if it will help at all though.

Hypertension is known as "the silent killer" because damage occurs without your even knowing it. Each and every time your heart beats it has to pump unnecessarily hard to overcome the high resistance of high blood pressure (think of it as a heart having to push blood out against a kinked hose). Over time, your heart enlarges to accomodate this extra workload, and you don't even know it. When it gets too big, the muscle doesn't pump correctly anymore - either it's too stiff and can't relax, or it's too boggy and can't push the blood out anymore. This is also known as heart failure.

The important thing is to lower the pressure. If you can do it "naturally", then great. If you try and you can't, then you should really consider taking an antihypertensive medication prescribed by your doctor. Don't wait until damage has been done, please. Nothing is sadder to see than someone who ignored it for years and years, then there's not a lot that can be offered.

I'm currently on a combo of atenolol and hydrochlorothiazide (diuretic). I also walk 3.5 miles 5 times a week, that hasn't had any lowering effect on my high BP as of yet though.

DH has been monitered for his BP by his doc for several years. It was slowly creeping up.....145/85. We bought a BowFlex and he started working out appox 3-5 times a week. Within 1 month it was down to 120/70. The doc said that whatever he was doing, to keep it up!!! I am so glad that he didn't have to go on medication!!!!!

Altenolol and triamenternine combo. Right now my blood pressure is 122/82.
