How are the rides?

Just wondering if anyone can give me a little info about some of the rides. Things like Back to the Future made us absolutely sick last time we were there, and we didn't have much time so we didn't get to do hardly any rides. I was specifically wondering about...The Mummy, Alien Attack, Earthquake, and Jurassic Park Adventure. We can handle roller coasters, etc but can't really handle the Motion Stimulator rides and things like that. If anyone can give me some info that would be great!! Thanks so much!!

One thing I suggest is checking out the little clips on the Universal Orlando website (www.universalorlando.com). They give you a pretty good idea of what the ride is like. You may also want to go to youtube and check out some ride videos.

Back to the future is the only one that makes me really sick and it is closing the end of this month.

In general I was pretty disappointed with the rides at Universal's Islands of Adventure. Jurassic Park is a major attraction there, but the dinosaurs were unimpressive and the ride kinda boring until the very end when you meet the T-Rex and take a big plunge. I'm not into big drops so not a favorite, but all in all not that impressed.

The best ride at Islands was the Spider Man ride - that one was almost worth the admission. It was a lot of fun and while fast, it did not make you sick to your stomach. You ride the comic book (not the movie), but it is a lot of fun. Count on a long line though.

We did not do the roller coasters at Islands - not our thing. We took our girls on the Seuss rides and again were not very impressed - I expected a lot more from Cat in the Hat and the attendants were surrly with our twins (13 months at the time - put us through hoops to bring them on - never had a problem at Disney).

At the Universal Movie Studio park the fab new ride is the Mummy - great ride but intense!! I almost lost my glasses! I thought the Mummy was roller coasteresque sort of like the Countdown to Extinction dino ride at Disney's Animal Kingdom - nope! The nearest thing to this is the Rockin' Roller Coaster at Disney's MGM (I like Rockin' better - a bit smoother). Mummy is dark and probably scary for kids, but it is a blast. Basically a very fast indoor coaster in the dark with severe loops and twists but little free fall. I would definitely recommend it as the best Universal ride, but not for the week stomach crowd.

Thanks so much for the replies!! We counted all the rides we might want to go on at Universal and IO and we only came up with 8 total which is kind of disappointing but we're going to give it a shot since we're in the area for 10 days. I have heard that The Mummy is awesome like you mentioned....but I also opt out on Rockin Rollercoaster as it made me feel loopy and off balance when I got off of it the 1 time that I did go on it so I think I will have to skip that one as well.

Back To The Future and Jimmy Neutron made me sick, too. We love the other rides and attractions, though. Twister is one of my absolute favourites! The Horror Make Up Show, and the Beetlejuice Revue are fantastic!

If you can only find 8 things you are willing to try in two parks, maybe you should rethink going. There are tons of things to do in each park, and if you are not willing to open yourself to new experiences then you will probably come away feeling resentful that you wasted your money.

The Mummy is great, it says a rollacoster but I wouldnt class it as one, Earthquake and Jaws are also very good, men in black and twister are also worth a visit and i would stay clear of fear factor show it was awful. in IOA, Spiderman, doom, hulk, jurassic park, dueling dragons all very good rides

Make no mistake the Mummy IS part rollercoaster and part dark ride, there's 2 coaster sections in the ride, and several show scenes...there isn't anything really like it anywhere else. Also, it has no loops (doesn't go upside down).

BTW, someone posted they were disappointed in the Cat in the Hat, but I love it, it has classic Disney dark ride written all over it IMO even though it's at Universal, reminds me a bit of the Imagination ride but with lots of spinning like Mr. Toad used to do.

When it comes to motion sickness Back to the future and Jimmy Neutron are the worst. Be warned that there is some spinning in The Cat in the hat...kind of like a tilt-a-whirl. I was a little sickish after that one. I did alright in Spiderman but I had to close my eyes a few times when I felt ill. My kids love these rides but I have to watch out for the "sickness" factor. I had no problems on MIB, Jaws, earthquake, ET, Jurrassic park, or Shrek. The Mummy made me a little ill when it went backwards...but what a great ride!!!

I personally do not class it as a coaster compared to all the others I have been on. Ues its fast and in the park but IMO not a rollacoaster. Where as hulk, rockin rollacoaster, dueling dragons, kraken, again imo certainly are

ok, there is a technical definition of a rollercoaster and the Mummy fits the description the same way any other one does. It is on a track, and has parts of it under no power and only by the force of gravity does it move. There are parts of the ride which are powered but not all

I was stating all along though that it was my opinion. Obviously people have different ideas of what makes a coster, the technical definition really doesnt matter to me

Uhhm... no. A coaster is a coaster. This isn't a 'make up your own definition' thing. It would be the same as saying "Technically it's a ride, but I prefer to call it a dinosaur." How does that make sense?

The Mummy is also one of my favorite rides. I definately consider it a coaster! It is sooooo much fun though!

We love the Mummy too, and no it's not the Hulk or Dueling Dragons, but nonetheless, we consider it a coaster, just like we would Rock N Rollercoaster, Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, Expedition Everest... I could go on......
