How are the participants chosen for the flag retreat ceremony?

My DH is a Marine veteran and we will be at WDW in November. Does anyone know the process?

I was told, due to the number of daily requests, it was changed to a random process some time ago (has since changed).

in the morning, veterans who happened to be in the area of Main Street by the railroad were selected. online suggestions were offered “to look the part” & wear military distinctive clothing

supposedly, in july of 2021, the procedure once again altered. Due to demand, they now pick an active service member.

I remember when my father was picked a few years ago on a family trip during Thanksgiving. He was so honored and I was so happy for him. It was definitely one of my favorite WDW memories.
