How Are the Crowds?

We are heading down this weekend and I was curious to know how the crowds have been. Are they normal for this time of year or are they less than normal? With the price of gas, airfare and the economy in general I am hoping the crowds will be a little lighter than normal. Thanks!

Its still hot though!

Thanks. We're getting ready for that with our weather today. Our weather is currently at 92 degrees, humidity in the 90%'s and dewpoints above 70 degrees. All this translates into high heat indexes and the proverbial 'AIR YOU WEAR'. Good to hear your sister thought crowds were lighter than normal.

We just got back last night, stayed at BCV July 4th - July 6th and it was crowded (probably because of the long holiday weekend) but no rain! :)

Agreed. I was at BCV July 1-6 and I thought it was quite crowded.

Please note that I have spent July 4th at Disney before and I felt it was quite crowded.

Bumping for more recent updates : Arriving 7/13 and curious of current crowd levels.

We have been here since June 30th although we left for the 4th and 5th. For us it has seemed that the crowds were much less than we anticipated. We walked on to Pirates on Sunday evening at about 5pm and rode Big Thunder 2 times in 30 minutes in the standby line. I think alot of it is about timing. We hit the parks early. I expected it to be mobbed the whole time we were here so it has been a pleasant surprise.

The only thing that has been a pain is the bus system. We used it the first couple days and have found it easier to just drive to the parks.
We have even had luck getting in to restaurants. We had no ADR's when we came. We have gotten in to several places by just calling dining once we were at the parks. As long as your a little flexible it works well.

I think that may be true for my sister as well. They went in expecting the worst, (hour waits for the toilet.) So, they were pleasantly surprised except for the 4th itself, which was insane.

We have been here since June 28th (except three days on the Disney Cruise July 3-6). It was pretty crowded June 28th through July 2nd. When we returned from the cruise, a CM told me the July 4th at MK was insane.

However, since we have returned, it doesn't seem crowded at all. We went over to WL last night and the valet CMs were not busy at all. One CM thinks that gas prices are starting to affect the crowd level.

We went to Chip and Dale sing along at Fort Wilderness last night, and it was not crowded as well.

A housekeeping CM told me this morniing that there were 400 people checking out of SSR on Sunday. She also said that the value resorts are crowded.

Will be leaving tomorrow to return home . It has been a fabulous time for us.

Also, it has rained everyday in the afternoon, but not for long. Starting tomorrow rain is only forecasted for 30% with increasing temperatures (93+) as opposed to 60% the last few days.

BTW, last week Tuesday, the new TOY Story attraction at DHS was down for most of the morning, we are going over there today and hope that is running.

My co-worker was there July 3rd and said it was pretty empty. It did get crowded at night though. Ditto for a co-worker that went a few weeks ago. I guess the economy is starting to take it's toll.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I hate the heat and crowds and we don't like going in July but that was all that worked out for us. DD (22) just spent 6 weeks in the New Mexico desert on an archeological dig at around 115 degrees so she says it will be fine in Florida! Let's see, Air You Wear versus a dry heat?!?

Had some friends just return and said crowds were quite manageable excptt for the fourth of July.

We just got back and crowds were definitely lighter than years past. MK was closed on July 4th. We were able to get in though because we had annual passes. Didn't know that was a perk (we were staying off-site that weekend). On Saturday the 5th there was a 20 minute wait for Tower of Terror. 20 minutes! I was very surprised at some of the wait times. Another day Haunted mansion, Philharmagic and pirates were basically a walk on. It was something. Also saw empty tables at most of the restaurants we went to. I did notice a lot of foreigners too. I think I heard more foreign languages than English. Guess that has to do with our economy and dollar strength.
