How are crowds right after New Years?

I'm talking January 2-8ish. Is there still residual holiday crowd, or does it die down pretty quickly? Thanks!

We have noticed that there is a drop off in some years. This year New Year's Day is a Saturday. I would guess that by Thursday, January 6 you will find fewer customers, if there is no special event.

Check to see if there are any running events.

Just note that Marathon Weekend is that next week-end. There's a 5k at EPCOT on Friday, Jan 7, a half-marathon on Saturday, Jan 8 and the full marathon on Sunday, Jan 9.

There will be some road closures and delayed park transportation on Jan 8 & 9 due to the races. The half marathon should wrap up around 10 AM on the 8th and the full should wrap up around 1:00 pm on the 9th. The parks are pretty dead while the races occur but after they’ll pick-up quite a bit – or at least last year they did. The races go through the parks (half – MK (before opening) & EPCOT; the full- MK (before opening) DHS, AK & EPCOT) so you’ll have to yield to the runners in the parks. They’ll have things marked off with cones.

Monday, Jan 10 is usually the day that people show up to Magic Kingdom wearing their medals. The MK was packed last year on that day. This year, to encourage more people to sign up for the full marathon, they’re offering free admission into the MK on Jan 10 if you’re wearing you 2011 full-marathon medal.

So, I would think, right as the NY’s crowd is leaving – the marathon crowd is arriving. I wouldn’t really expect things to die down until Jan 11.

we arrived on year on 1/1 and stayed that week and it was very crowded but just plan very well and have fun! a lot of schools are still out till mid week

We were there last year from Dec 28 to Jan 5th and Magic Kingdom was still crowded three days after new years eve...I couldnt believe it but we waited in long lines still.... not as long as the first part of our vacation but still long

We will be there from Jan 1-6 and expecting crowds to be smaller by the second. I checked with a few friends around the country and most kids have to be back to school on Monday the 3rd, so would expect people to leave by the 2nd.
Someone said the crowds depend on what day NYEve falls on before a weekend and this year it is a Friday. :cool1:

We were there this year from the 2nd to the 9th, and found the crowds to be moderate. There were tons of visitors from South America, and lots of British (and college students) as well. We froze all week!

Ha, well I'd be one of those college students! We don't go back to school until the 10th, so I thought it might be a good time. However if there are still going to be crowds from New Years and for the marathon, maybe I'll just go as a graduation trip in early May...

Congrats to you! We have two in college right now, which is why we went the week we did. But after freezing to death the whole time, we're thinking about an early May trip next year as well. Best of luck, whenever you decide to go!
