How accurate is Accuweather?

We will be at WDW from January 29 through Feb 2nd and I've been stalking the weather sites to try to see what the weather will be like for us. The only site that will forcast more than 10 days out is Accuweather and they say it will be pretty cold, 60s during the day and 40s at night. Historically, are they accurate or do I still have hope that it will be warm for us?
I wish we were there right now, the weather this week looks fantastic!

Any forecast more than 48 hours out in FL is worthless.

I did the same thing with Accuweather last month. I have to agree that the Florida weather changes a lot and it is hard to know whether or not the forecast will be exact. However, I have found Accuweather to be extremely accurate! I would definitely plan to bring layers for your clothing. We were there the first week in December and it was in the 50's the first two days and in the 80's by the last two days. Have fun!!

Don't even bother looking. Many, many trips to Orlando have taught me that you really can't predict weather in Central FL more than a few days out.

Accuweather produces those long-range forecasts because consumers demand them, not because they have any value. Even here in PA, their 15-day forecast is useless most of the time.

Once you get within a few days, I find them to be pretty accurate. But beyond that, you're just wasting your time.

I would not bother looking right now. It is too far out. I live in Florida and I checked the weather last night for today and it said that it was going to be a high of 70 and a low of 50. It was SO wrong! I woke up today and it was in the 30s. There is no point in checking the weather that far out.

I really should know better because I live in Texas. This morning, the temps dropped 25 degrees in about 15 minutes because a front blew in. I will just pack layers and hope for the best. It's just that being able to see our arrival date on the weather forecast makes it seem more "real!"

We'll be there the same week. I promised myself I wouldn't look at the weather until the 25th. So far so good.

I'm there Jan 26- Feb 2 and I was wondering what to expect for weather too.

I'll play FL weatherman for those dates.

  • Precipitation will be between dry and wet.
  • Winds will be between calm and gusty.
  • Temps will be between 20 and 80.
Never had one lesson. :thumbsup2

Awesome! Thanks! :rotfl:

I live in Vancouver, BC so predicting the weather is about like that! Of course I have no idea what those temps mean but I get the idea of "who knows what its going to be"

I'll be there around the same time and I've also been stalking accuweather but more for what it will be like here in NJ! I'm so afraid we're going to have a snowstorm and our flight will be canceled!

Prediction that far out looks more at trends than specifics. I'm watching the same week on Accuweather and they've shifted that cold front significantly in the time our dates (starting with the 24th) have been in the 15 day range. At first they were saying our first two days would be cold, low 60s for highs. Now they're saying high 70s.

I will say this - for our Michigan weather, Accuweather tends to be the most pessimistic forecast as far as temps and precipitation. In the past two weeks, they've been consistently 3-5° below actual temps and predicted 4+" of snow when all we've gotten have been flurries (and rain, which probably would have been a fair bit of snow had their temps been more accurate...). Weather.com (The Weather Channel) tends to be the most accurate forecast here, at least for <5 days out.

I usually find accuweather to be accurate and I have been driving myself nuts because they change from day to day.I have been looking for Vt and CT because I drive 3 hours on Friday to a hotel in CT and then we fly out early Sat am. And of course I check Orlando and it has chasnged alot since last week. We always go this time of year and we know to bring long pants and shorts, shortb sleeve, long sleeve and a sweatshirt to layer and a lighter weight jacket. I also bring those $1 gloves in case it is chilly watching fireworks at night. We always swim as the pools are heated to 82. I just think of the cold at home and I feel warmer!

Have a great trip...you arrive as we are leaving!

Well I for one appreciate the forecast :worship:

Of course we're arriving the day before the person who asked (25th) and leaving a day later (3rd) ...do you think your weather forecast will be accurate for those days too <grin>

I'm always amused by how no one ever puts stock in their local weather people getting it right, but somehow, when they travel, it's going to be anymore accurate or predictable? :rotfl:There's no sense in worrying more than a day or two out. And even then, just go w/ it.

That's easier said than done, though, especially for those of us who don't have the option of flying Southwest! "Just go with it" requires some serious overpacking and those baggage fees add up quick.

I don't fly SW either. Never will, unless I'm eager for some humliation. Read: overweight. But I'm packing an umbrella and a few ponchos. If we need more, we'll have to buy more. It's just how it is. No matter if the weather report said it was going to rain or not, I'd pack just in case. This time we're going down w/ only carry-ons! Talking about cramming stuff in! An XL duffel is in one of them for the return trip and shtuff. :wizard:

Ah, it isn't the rain I worry about... it is that 20° to 80° temperature range that Mesaboy forecasted! I just don't have room to pack for everything from winter to summer.
