has anyone done this? i was just reading the fine print on the benefits guidbook. wow my husband is gonna freak over those rates! im sure we will have to plan a trip in the summer because who can pass up $35 a round? (not that I golf- but what an incentive to get him to go!)

:boat: :boat: :jumping1:

DH bught one in June of 2002. Used it for 3 rounds that trip, then 6 more "person-rounds" this past May (the buyer and up to 3 guests get the discount-in DH's case, it was he and DS for 3 rounds). BTW, they also golfed once after 3:00 and got a price of $30 at EP, without the card. Like an AP, if you can fit in 2 trips in the year that the card is good for, it may be a good buy. However, in May, 2004, our next trip, he's not planning to buy the card because he doesn't plan to go again within a year of that. Yes, that's why we always plan our trips in the summer (May or later)-because of the golf rates. There's always lots of water at the courses, and rates are so low DH just CAN'T pass them up.

Dh got a card two weeks ago when were at OKW. The card is good until the end of the month of the following year. So in his case the card is good until OCt. 31, 2004 and were planning on going back in Oct. 04 so it made sense to get it now. He played twice this trip and will play several rounds next trip. And like you, nikitta, it is how I get him to go back to WDW so often. He golfs and I go to the parks (sometimes I ride with him) and then we still have plenty of time to do fun things together. It really works for us.

Thanks, lsutiger. I didn't know it was good until the end of the month you buy it in. That may make us refigure the value of buying one next trip. Sounds like your DH is very similar to mine-he golfs, I do the parks, meet back at OKW at the end of the day (usually). Occassionally, for a change, DH meets me in Epcot to see Illuminations.

can anyone tell me about this card....and where to find info. about it? What does the card cost and what are the benefits? Also, where does it talk about it in fine print in the member's book? DH is interested and we're new to DVC (our first trip is in another week!)

Thanks for any info.

I'd like to ask a question about playing golf while down at WDW. I love to play, but when I go on vacation it would just be DW and myself. She doesn't play (wouldn't even know which end of the club to hold :) ). Can you play a round by yourself? Will they match you up with other folks by themselves? Or are you just out of luck?

The golf card is purchased at the pro shop -- just show them your DVC card. I believe with tax the total comes to about $94. This past Easter week my DH purchased the card and golfed everyday for $35. However, for Easter week '04 the rates are $95. DH usually golfs by himself. He calls and makes a tee-time and the course will pair him up with three others who are usually single golfers. Over the past 7 trips, he has golfed with people from all over the country. THe rates for '04 are posted in the latest newsletter on the DVC website. If you can get two trips out of the card, its a great deal.

She sounds like me! DH is always the only golfer. They match you up with others. DH has always met some real nice people this way. Before we stayed at OKW the first time (we had ressies there), he golfed with an OKW lover. So DH came back really looking forward to our stay there. And he's had some "small world-you're from...?" moments. They don't match you by ability, there may be a big discrepency between your ability and that of who you're playing with, but everyone DH's been paired with has always been very nice.
BTW, from experience, please don't try to teach DW to golf-easiest way to get to divorce court unless you stop and let her remain golf-challenged.

Yep! I agree with this 100%! I originally started golfing because my DH loves it. Back then, I was in very good shape, but the last 4 holes of a 9 hole game just seemed to take forever and I could barely make it to the end. Forget about playing 18 - I was exhausted after 5! Needed a drink and a long nap afterwards, every time.

Anyway, I eventually went golfing with some girlfriends. As we were walking to the first tee, one of said to me, "Aren't you going to get a cart for your clubs"? Seeing my puzzled look, she explained to me the $2 pull cart option. That was the easiest 9 holes I had ever played and when we were done, I could easily have done another 9 or even 18 - no problem!!!!

My DH had me carrying that heavy bag and NEVER EVEN MENTIONED those carts! It happened over 20 years ago and I AM STILL MAD about it! Lifting that heavy bag up and down a bazillion times is not my idea of fun!

Anyway, we're still married and I still play golf occasionally, but mostly with my girlfriends and work colleagues. I firmly believe that it is not a good idea to teach your spouse to play golf or how to drive! :teeth:

My husband and I took up golf together at the same time - with my father and mother teaching us.

Golf is a wonderful sport and I'd encourage the spouses of golfers to give it a try (I'll be sexist here and from now on assume the non-golfers are women, but this works both ways). But join a ladies league, golf with your girlfriends and/or take some lessons - don't take it up by joining your husband and his buddies on a long 18. And try not to do what one couple I golfed with this summer was doing - he'd retired this year - and decided that she should take up golf to keep him company. If your spouse golfs and might want your company when he retires, it may be best to learn to golf sometime before you turn sixty. Then once you get the hang of it, go with your husband to a par 3 course. Golf is great in that it isn't too tiring and you can play it for a long time(I played golf this year with an 84 year old woman!). Plus many courses are beautiful. And, it can be a good way for you and your spouse to spend some time together. But, unless you get really good, stay away from Jack and Jill tournaments forever!

I haven't golfed the Disney courses yet, but part of the reason we bought DVC was that once our kids get older, it will be our "golf resort."

My DH is always a single golfer. This last trip he was paired up with some really nice folks. He was all excited about having played with them - one gentleman had celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary the night before at GF! I think he was an inspiration for DH. He loves meeting all the different folks. I sometimes ride with him and the courses are beautiful. I love taking pictures and do this while he golfs. He did teach me to golf early in our relationship, but I'm too busy now and haven't played in years. But I'm very willing to support his golf habit.

I've been to Disney for Golf the last couple of years. I found that if I was golfing by myself or even with 1 other the DVC golf membership did not save me any money. Disney has rates for different times of the day and I'm usually a late afternoon golfer. Their twilight rates are as good as the DVC rate and you don't have to pay $94 for the privledge.

If you are going to play golf during the most expensive season and early in the morning (although I think that the DVC golf membership starts at 10 AM) then it might be worth it. But do the math first.

Golf at Disney is great, the courses are beautiful and full of wildlife. I have met many people playing there and in the summer they have a great deal for locals ($135 for a membership that allows unlimited play after 4 PM everyday).
