I was posting on another thread and I realized a lot of people have questions about why we do the things we do, who is who, etc etc.
So I thought maybe an "ask the webmaster" thread is in order

Only a few ground rules
1. We don't debate board policy on the boards. If you have a generic "why don't you allow this" question I will answer that but not "Why was my post on french provincial art deleted yesterday"
2. Certain user numbers, visitor total's etc Pete considers proprietary information, but I will tell you that I can't answer that.

Ok. I am not sure if this is what you mean, but sometimes (not often) when I click on a thread, and scroll down to the bottom, where the forum box is, there will just be a C in the box, instead of "community board" and there isn't a "go" button next to it. Is this happening because of something on my end, or is it something on the system? Thanks.

Good question! The webmasters select the moderators often with input from moderators of a certain board. We look for a number of different factors
1. Helpfulness, are they already helping people
2. how long someone has been a member/number of posts etc
3. We tend to prefer people that are in love with the board we are considering them for. We want them to truly like THAT subject. Generally we won't ask someone from the community board to become a resteraunt board moderator
4. How they get along with other posters but not in a popularity contest sense more in a "causing issues" sense

Let's look at our newest moderator Caskbill. He developed a program to help people track DVC points that if very popular. He was an engineer and had a reputation for being truly helpful. That made him a natural for tech support

Pete is Pete Werner. If you look at the bottom of the page you will see a copyright by "Werner Technologies". He owns these boards. On the boards he is "WebmasterPete"

Pete actually started these boards as a hobby on a shoestring budget. I don't believe he spent much at all since he "did it himself". He obviously had some great ideas and concepts because it has grown steadily ever since
According to Alexa.com we are about the 13,000th biggest site on the internet right now, bigger than any other Disney site except Disney's. That is JUST the boards, not the DIS etc

The DIS by years, Dreams grew as an offshoot of the DIS, someone came up with the idea "HEY we have all the people wanting to go to Disney!"
Ownership of Dreams is one of those area's I'm not sure I can go at least without talking to Pete first
