I have a friend who owns a lot of points at different resorts. I asked her to contact me if she would ever like to sell some of her points at a resort I don't already own. She said I'd have first crack, but then I got to thinking how the points would be properly deeded. Has anyone ever bought points directly from someone and what would the proper procedures be? We are both Canadian so I don't know if this is a further complication.

It will have to be handled like any other real estate transaction - title search, etc PLUS it has to go to Disney for their right of first refusal. I have no idea how being Canadian complicates matters for a resale, but I do know that some resellers will handle the paperwork for you for a small administrative fee if you already have a seller lined up (you, in this case).

I don't know if being Canadian complicates things, but US citizen can kind of do a "do-it yourself" transfer, if you know the person well enough that you don't need a title search.

All transfers have to be presented to DVC for ROFR, once they clear that, and assuming there is no loan against the point contract, you can do a quit-claim deed and file it with Orange County (assuming you are buying a WDW-DVC resort) or whatever county the resort is located in.

well, a few years ago...I had just lost half of my DVC points in a divorce...and I was sitting at the Gurgling Suitcase where I met a guy who needed to sell his points because of a divorce...AND the points were the same use month as mine...
it was sooo easy...and to be honest, Disney was incredibly helpful with the sale. It's really not that difficult.

So you two guys agreed on a price and then just contacted Disney and they told you what to do? Being the businessman that you are I think you already understood how things work. But us ordinary folk are kinda lost.

PS--another reason to keep the February use year, IMHO. More people choose February as a use year (based on research of new deeds for BLT) and if you need to sell or buy more points from other than Disney it would be easier to hook up with someone else. I can't imagine trying to keep track of points with different use year months.

More people don't really choose February - that's the UY DVC has been offering for sale, so the more appropriate description is that few people ask for something different. I think a very large percentage of new buyers don't even realize they can request a different UY.

Really? We're newbies and our Guide told us we could select a different Use Year. He didn't push it but he did mention it. We vary our dates of travel so much that it really didn't matter to us what use year we had.
