How 2 Big Kids Conquered 'The World' In 6 Days - UPDATED Aug 11 - Conclusion

Our day began with a call from Stitch at 6:30 telling us it’s time to get up. I got up and ready first then went to get some juice in our mugs to drink before our 7:30 breakfast ADR. I learned the hard way to put a few more minutes between toothpaste and lemonade. :scared:

By the time I got back to the room Bonny was almost ready and within a few minutes we had Pal Mickey in hand and all three of us were on our way to brekkie. The day started off overcast but very nice…not too hot or humid at all.

We got to the Poly about 20 after 7 so we didn’t have to wait too long before we were seated. In the first pic you can see how crowded the Kona Café was…good thing we had the ADR. ;) We each ordered the Tonga Toast as it looked so good and we had read so many good things about it. Our server told us we weren’t allowed to put any syrup on it until we tried it first. We agreed as we’re smart enough to not argue with someone who could spit on our food. Sure enough, everything we had read about it was true as we both absolutely loved it. It was a little too much for us though and we were absolutely stuffed when we left. We couldn’t resist taking a picture of the chocolate Lilo & Stitch they had on display. We realized we probably could have left the car parked at the Poly and just taken the monorail to MK but figured we had better not since we weren’t guests there.

We decided to take the ferry over to MK and got there just as the opening ceremony was finishing.

The first thing we did was go up to the train station and just sit and overlook Main Street USA for a few minutes. :goodvibes

May18-06.jpg

We then took a stroll into Exposition Hall as we had read they had one of the old ride cars from Mr. Toad there for photo ops. We looked everywhere but couldn’t find it. Pal Mickey had fun though.

As we were getting ready to leave, Pinnochio and Gepetto walked by on their way out to do a greeting session. Since we had planned on getting a lot of character photos this trip, we headed out and got our pics taken with them. Gepetto gave Pal Mickey a once over to make sure he was working fine.

We also saw Gideon outside Exposition Hall and got pics with him. Over by the fire hall we saw Horace Horsecollar but by the time we got over there he was done and gone. We decided not to stick around and wait to see if he came back.

Pal Mickey was quite talkative on Main Street USA, first telling us where we were then telling us that the names on the second story windows were the early imagineers. Things we know but a lot of kids who are taking Pal Mickey around wouldn’t. We had to take a picture of Pal Mickey with Roy’s statue.

May18-09.jpg

The funny thing was that Pal Mickey didn’t say anything at the time we were at Roy’s statue but when we left and were halfway down Main St he piped up that the statue next to Minnie was Walt’s brother Roy. For the most part though, we found that he was pretty good at knowing exactly where he was when he’d decide to tell us something.

We had read many times on the Disboards how the DDP has made it impossible to get walk-ins at any of the TS restaurants. In this pic you can see there was some walk-in availability. Throughout the trip, every time we saw this board there were always 3 or 4 TS restaurants with availability. :confused3

Our next stop was Adventureland where we went to ride POTC. pirate:

As much as we like the Tiki Room, we decided to skip it. It just isn’t the same since they revamped the attraction. It was a classic and I really didn’t see the need to change it. Furthermore I don’t see how adding Gilbert Gottfried to anything can be called an improvement. :rotfl2:

On that note, I’ll sign off for now and when we resume we’ll head on over to visit 999 happy haunts…

I love reading trip reports, thanks for all the pics. Last trip we were to go to Universal after our week at WDW, next time maybe if we go first we'll actually get there!;) Thanks for sharing info about that other park. We also have the Pal Mickey and got the touring outfit. Don't you love his camera? Can't wait to hear from him on our next trip. He's turned off now, but keeps an eye on all of us from his spot.

We love Universal just as much as Disney. A tip I'd offer you is don't go expecting it to be Disney...it's a very different experience and the two parks really can't be compared. They're both fantastic for completely different reasons.

We thought that was such a cute outfit for Pal Mickey but we left the little camera and fanny pack back in the room so they didn't get lost. :goodvibes

Thanks for reading... :thumbsup2

Since you did such a good job on the HHN map here's a peek at one of the fireworks pics we took...far from the best we took but we still think it's a pretty good one:

Travel Day

Despite our 1:55 pm departure time, we were on the road by 10:00 am. Why so early you ask? Unfortunately we live about 60 km from the airport and it takes us about an hour to get there, and since all our previous flights have left at 8:00 am when getting to the airport was a snap with no traffic – we weren’t sure how long it would actually take us or how much of a wait we’d have at the airport with a 1:55 pm departure.

I'm enjoying your trip report and this part in particular. See, here is what I experience on a daily basis, so your version of traffic is a refreshing change:

And that's a good day!

Keep up the good work! Looking forward to the next installment!

Loved your update. I LOVE the picture of the fireworks. I want to get a Pal Mickey just to say that I have one.:lmao:He's so cute. Can't wait to here more.

Your pictures are so good, would you share with us what type of camera you used and did you use a tripod?

Great fireworks!

I want a Pal Mickey now! I'm sure DH will be happy about that...I'll tell him to blame you! :cool2:

Great report! I love reading about these *big kid* trips because DH and I will be embarking on one of our own in 4 months, 11 days, 19 hours...not that I'm counting down. :rolleyes1

Please update soon, and I love your pictures!

I wish our traffic was like that...the pic you quoted was taken about 20 minutes south of the city...in town it's similar to what you posted for most of the day but much heavier during rushhours :sad1:

Your pictures are so good, would you share with us what type of camera you used and did you use a tripod?

Thank you...for the travel day (first installment) & Adventurer's Club (coming soon) pics we just used a HP R717 point & shoot but the rest of the pics were taken with a Canon Rebel XTI. We brought a tripod with us but ended up not using it at all.

Just wanted to let you know I'm really enjoying your report and pictures. Thanks for writing; keep up the good work!

Denise

i so hope you will be bringing that nifty camera with you for our HHN event...

i have a cannon power shot SD 630 and haven't figured out how to use it yet

please tatoo the date 10/7 on your forehead so you don't forget :rolleyes1

Now where were we...oh yes we had just left Adventureland and were on our way to Liberty Square. :)

May18-14.jpg

We took a shortcut through Frontierland and ran into Br’er Fox. After a quick few photos we continued on our way.

For a lot of people, they get that “I’m at Disney” feeling when they come through the gates and Main Street USA opens up in front of them. For us, that feeling comes a bit later after we get to the HM and hear Paul Frees’ voice say those few words…“Welcome foolish mortals, to the haunted mansion…” :goodvibes

The ride was a walk-on so we didn’t have to wait at all. The downside of the omnimover ride system is that we can’t take any good pics without the flash unless the ride stops. Fortunately for us, the ride did stop at the perfect location…with our Doombuggy right in front of the hitch-hiking ghosts… :thumbsup2

May18-20.jpg

In a few days the HM will be shutting down for a refurb. While we're a bit concerned about them ruining it like they did with the Tiki Room and most recently POTC (lynch usif you will but we're not afraid to say it), a refurb is needed. That was really emphasized when we had no audio through half the ride. We're just keeping my fingers crossed that when we get back in October it’ll be reopened as planned and still be the HM we know and love. :scared:

May18-22.jpg

Pal Mickey piped up during the ballroom scene that g-g-g-ghosts were coming out of the organ  …that was a cute touch!

After we left HM, we headed for a really scary ride…

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

Now we have to get that song out of our heads … We’ll write more once we stop singing “...it’s a world of laughter, a world of tears…” :headache:

Admit it…now we got you going…bwah ha haaaa… :rolleyes1
