How 2 Big Kids Conquered 'The World' In 6 Days - UPDATED Aug 11 - Conclusion

When we last left you, we had just finished building our robots and upon leaving Innoventions, noticed the sky was becoming very dark. After stopping in one of the shops to buy something so that we had a bag to protect Pal Mickey and our camera in case of rain (like you really need an excuse to buy souvenirs at Disney ;)), we decided to make our way over to Mexico. We were planning to head to Norway as they were having some special presentations that day however with the threatening skies we decided to stop at Mexico where we could be indoors. By now the wind was really blowing and we could tell that the sky was going to open up soon.

Mexico is one of our favorite pavilions - it’s a wonderfully themed pavilion. :thumbsup2

Of course we had to stop and check out the Mexican crafts area.

Stepping into the marketplace you feel like you are transported into another world. – the center of a Mexican Village at night.

We always enjoy taking the time to browse through the shops and carts.

While we were browsing we stopped at a bench and dug out the spare batteries we had brought for Pal Mickey. After a few minutes of fiddling the new batteries were installed and we turned on the switch and Pal Mickey returned to life.

Next, we decided to ride the new Gran Fiesta Tour starring The Three Caballeros. We were looking forward to riding it this trip as when we were at WDW last fall it was still the Rio del Tiempo.

MC18-15.jpg

We joked that the escapees from It’s a Small World ended up in Mexico. :lmao:

MC18-16.jpg

By now we noticed the pavilion was getting quite crowded and a lot of the people coming in were wearing dripping wet rain ponchos. The rain had begun. We decided to wait out the rain and found a bench beside the fountain. If you are going to be stuck at any pavilion, Mexico is an ideal one with its great atmosphere.

MC18-08.jpg

More people started to arrive and a couple who sat down on the fountain across from us confirmed that is was raining quite heavily – they were absolutely soaked.

After a short while, the crowd began to thin a bit, and Bonny went to check the status of the weather while Lee saved the bench. Unfortunately it was still coming down quite steadily, so decided to stay put a while longer. It was then we reminded ourselves to bring our rain gear with us next time, not leave it in the back seat of our rental out in the parking lot. :rolleyes1

When the rain finally subsided (about 45 minutes later) we decided to just head back to the resort and call it a rain delay. We still had several hours we could have stayed with our EMH but the constant running around over the past few days had caught up with us and we just wanted to call it an early night. On our way out we couldn’t resist stopping to take this picture with almost no one around …

... Up next, Day 4 at Animal Kingdom and a mugging. ;)

Great tip on the Mexico pavilion for a rain shelter, I'll keep that in mind when I am down there next week. I love your photo of the Peter Pan pirate ship in front of the Epcot globe. I wish it was there year round. Keep the updates coming!

Oh man that's nice. Makes me wish it was October right now. Since I've never had the chance to visit Epcot, I'm living it through you and of course will be living it in October. Yes the Mexico pavillion is on my list. That's indoors???? Wow!!!! Keep it coming.

Love your Mexico pics! We are eating at SA and I had to show my DH your pics.

Thanks!

I'm still here! Enjoyed your latest installment and your great pics! :thumbsup2

Sorry for the delay in posting our next installment. Work has had to take a priority…in Lee’s practice he likes to open about ½ dozen new files a month which keeps things steady but manageable. In June he opened about 20 and in the first 4 days of July he’s opened 7 more. It’s really hectic but it’s going to mean 3 trips to WDW in ’08 instead of 2!!

Anyways, back to the next installment. The next morning we headed out to Animal Kingdom. This is one park we had really never spent much time at before. In our first trip, we skipped it altogether and in the past few trips we had only been able to go for a few hours before we had to leave to go to another park for an ADR or something. This time we were determined to take our time and see as much of the park as we wanted.

May19-01.jpg

We had read about the park entrance at the back of the Rainforest Café so decided we’d give it a try.

May19-02.jpg

As we got through we found the turnstile to get into the park. Sure enough, while the regular park entrance turnstiles were lined up, there was no-one waiting at ours. There’s your tip of the day. You’re welcome. *hehe*

Our first stop was to stop and see Pooh & friends at Discovery Island

May19-04.jpg

We then headed out to Dinoland. We just did a quick stroll through and got to meet Hester. We debated going to ride Dinosaur again but decided to pass. Hopefully Mrs. Huxtable will forgive us.

After we took this one we started to leave then Bonny noticed the one sneaking up to play with the other and took this series of pics. The way they played reminded us of two of our dogs.

Well we’re not quite through the Jungle Trek and we’re at our limit of pictures we can post so we’ll have to end this installment here…we’ll pick it up again soon. Promise!!

Still here. What great pics of the tigers playing! Great installment as usual. I will be looking for the next one.

We Canadians are sooo faithful. Love the Tiger pics. My DS thought they were cool. Looking forward to more soon.;)

The tiger pics are great! Tigers are my favorite animals, hands down. Funny you should say they remind you of dogs...we had a dog once who would do this snarl/hiss thing when you wrestled with her, and her face would look just like a tiger's when she did that. :)

So glad you updated. Can't wait for more!

hey homie, i'm still with you on this report.
fabulous job you are doing on it.

Great Installment. I love the pics of EE. I can't wait to ride it in Oct!

The Tiger pictures are so funny. They remind me of when one of our cats gets frisky and attacks the other one. Very cute.

See…we promised we’d get the next installment up soon…

We’ll pick up right where we left off…the rest of the Maharajah Jungle Trek…

May19-19.jpg

After finishing the trek, we decided to head on over to Africa, stopping to take this pic of EE along the way.

May19-08.jpg

We’ve done the Kilimanjaro Safari and Pangani Forest Expedition on the past few trips and plan to do it again in October so we decided to skip it this trip. One place we’ve never visited is Rafiki’s Planet Watch so we decided to hop the train and head over to check it out.

May19-21.jpg

May19-22.jpg

At first it was a great time and we really enjoyed ourselves. We took some time and chatted with the staff vets and learned quite a bit. Then we headed out to the Affection Section…the scene of the infamous mugging that cast a cloud over the joy of the afternoon. It all happened so fast but we’ll try to recount it as best we can…

It all started when this little fella decided to come and get his ears rubbed…at first it seemed innocent enough but in hindsight he was clearly an accomplice sent to cause a diversion

May19-24.jpg

As Lee was busy with the goat ears, the attacker moved into position. There was a hint of a warning as Bonny commented “Oh look you’ve got another little friend”. Before Lee was able to react, he was struck (ok nudged) from behind and the park map was savagely yoinked from his back pocket. The chase was on and we managed to get half our map back from him…the rest became a snack. here’s a picture of Lee with his attacker taken shortly after the (not-so) vicious attack..

May19-23.jpg

This may seem trivial to you all but rest assured…the looks Lee got from his colleagues when he returned to tell them he got mugged by a goat were anything but funny. OK maybe they were funny to everyone else…

Afterwards we retreated to the safety of the building and noticed Rafiki had come out so we put the trauma of the mugging behind us ( ) long enough to take this pic

May19-26.jpg

We decided to head back to the train and noticed Jiminy Cricket coming out for photos so we decided to follow him and be first in line. Feel free to say it…“Here’s something you don’t see every day…a lawyer with a conscience” :lmao:

May19-25.jpg

After Jiminy, we headed back to the train and caught a ride back to Africa. We saw Baloo taking pictures but he left as we were just getting to the line. We were told he’d be back in 25 minutes so we decided to head to Camp Minnie Mickey to see of any of the characters were different then when we were there last time as we had heard they do vary them from time to time. As we were heading over we ran into Flik who was all by himself

May19-29.jpg

May19-30.jpg

We got to Camp Minnie Mickey and found they were the same characters as we had our pics taken with the last trip. We turned around and headed back and only had a few minutes to sit and wait for Baloo

May19-31.jpg

We were planning to head to Epcot later in the afternoon since we had been rained out the night before. We decided to take our time leaving and headed to the Tree of Life for a few pictures on the way out

Next installment...off to Epcot

Great installments!!! You guys took some great pictures and the story of the mugging was too funny!!!! I am looking forward to your Epcot updates.

You must be so excited to be going to WDW 3 times next year. I am jealous!

Oh I like this installment very much. That is a must see for October. Ok the mugging was funny. Remind me to recount the Lama hide and seek story that my mom and I expeirenced in Hamilton Ontario

After leaving Animal Kingdom we returned to our resort for a short rest and some refreshments … we were definitely getting good use out of our refillable mugs! Since it was late afternoon, we also decided to grab something to eat at the food court before we headed off to EPCOT for the evening. Lee had the Chicken Penne Alfredo with Tie Dye Cheesecake while Bonny had the Shrimp Lo Mein.

Our first stop upon arriving at EPCOT was Mission Space. As you can see, this time the weather was a little more cooperative

May19-c.jpg

Next up was The Seas with Nemo and Friends. As it hadn't opened yet during our last visit in October, we wanted to make sure we made time for it this trip. We found the queue for this ride to be abnormally long, half expecting to find the path strewn with the skeletons of those too weak to make it all the way to the ride. When we finally got there we were greeted by our clam-mobiles (think HM doombuggies decked out for gay days). While we were glad we did the ride, I doubt we’ll do it again in the future.

May19-d.jpg

While in the area, we thought we’d try the stand-by line for Soarin’ but quickly changed our minds when we saw the 75 minute wait. We've done it before so we figured we'd just get fastpasses the next time we were there. Since the rain interrupted our tour of the World Showcase last visit, we decided to head there next. Of course we had to stop and take some more pictures along the way.

May19-f.jpg

May19-g.jpg

May19-h.jpg

Our first stop at the World Showcase was our home country – Canada. We always like to stop and chat with the CMs at the Trading Post, and this time we chatted with a CM by the name of Ashley who was from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, about 3 hours from Bonny’s home city of Regina. In the course of our conversation, we found out that one thing Ashley missed about being in the States was not having a Tim Horton’s on every street corner. So … we promised to bring some Timbits with us when we returned in October. If any CMs from the Canadian Pavilion are reading this, tell her we haven’t forgotten her and will bring her the much desired Timbits on October 8th!

The sun was starting to set, and we decided to head over to Morocco where we were hoping to catch Aladdin for a character photo op. Unfortunately we had no such luck, although Pal Mickey did get a photo with another special friend.

May19-u.jpg

May19-v.jpg

By now, our feet were starting to give out on us (well Bonny's were starting to give out...Lee's had already packed it in and called it a night), so we decided to grab a seat on a bench by the lagoon.

May19-w.jpg

May19-x.jpg

While resting our feet, we contemplated staying to catch Illuminations, but decided to call it an early night and head back to the resort. On our way out, we stopped to take a few more pics … (actually Bonny stopped to take the pics while she waited for Lee to hobble along and catch up)
