Housekeeping timing

On our recent 5-night stay at BLT, I had a new experience with housekeeping. I'm usually very aware of what day T&T should happen, and we never stay long enough to have a full clean. I was expecting T&T on our day 4, which was after night 3, just about halfway through our visit. So I was very surprised on the morning after our first night when housekeeping knocked on the door and asked if we wanted a T&T. We didn't need one (basically no trash generated yet, and some hadn't even used towels for their morning shower yet!), but I thought, why turn it down? She handed us some fresh towels (counting them to make sure they matched the number of used towels that we'd given her), and then asked if she could use our room phone, because that's how they track that it's been done. That's when I started wondering if I had just agreed to not have T&T for the rest of our stay. Sure enough, we never saw housekeeping again.

Anyone have this happen to them? Should I have turned it down?

First, I would not just stand there and accept a pile if towels as that is not a proper T&T. But I think the schedule was off and even if you had turned it down then without a call to housekeeping to verify the correct date it wasn't going to happen.

So what IS supposed to be done for a proper T&T?

They will come in, gather your used towels and replace with new - hanging them up on the racks or stacking them where they normally would. They also will come in and replace (or add to your partially used) toiletries, replenish TP and collect the trash and replace with fresh bags. They also will replenish coffee and should look at your kitchenette supplies in the studio and replenish there if you've been using the plates, napkins and silverware I believe. They call from the room to show they are completed - so their supervisor knows they were in the room to take care of these things! (ok - that's a little my supposition but if that's not all the reason I believe it's part) If housekeeping shows up while we are there I will open the door and usher them in. If that weren't convenient and I still wanted the service I would ask them to return shortly or in an hour. If I did not want the service I'd decline although might grab the towels in that instance if I wanted new ones. But we tend to use the service so I welcome them in.

From the member website:

"With Trash & Towel service, Housekeeping will:

  • Empty trash and replace liners in trash bins.
  • Provide fresh bathroom linens.
  • Replace bath amenities as needed.
  • Replenish facial tissues, paper towels and toilet paper.
  • Replenish coffee, sugar, cream and sweeteners."
And if you did have a longer stay:

"With Full-Cleaning service, Housekeeping will provide everything included with the Trash & Towel Service, plus:

  • Change the bed linens.
  • Vacuum and dust the vacation villa.
  • Clean the bathroom(s).
  • Clean the kitchen/kitchenette and wash the dishes."

IMO this is one of the major issues that Disney doesn't care to fix. Just with the number of times that we have notified housekeeping, the resort management and MS, they have to know that they have a problem but it never changes. That tells me that they do not care!

On our TT days, we either get skipped or they leave a basket full of towels and supplies at the resorts that use baskets or they leave the pile of fresh towels on the table. They pick up some dirty towels or don't pick up any. We also have had housekeeping just hand us items through the door without them wanting to come into the room. It's obvious that they take the easiest and fastest route just to finish their section so they can go home early with pay per the union agreement.

Our experience with Trash and Towel is just as it should be. They always come and do as described unless we ask them not do. Never got one early or missed one. There have been times we forgot and left our Do Not Disturb sign out on that day and when we got back we had a message on our phone to let them know when they could come. At that point I always just call them and let them come bring me what I need since I delayed them.

To the OP, I think I would have been concerned that they might have charged you for that T&T since it wasn't on your scheduled day. That would be my thinking for turning it down.

I'm with DebbieB and Sammie. In 22 years as a member I cannot recall a stay where we didn't get our T & T on the correct date.

The only housekeeping snafu I've ever had was when I had requested a full cleaning on our T & T day in our GV last year. I was fully aware of the cost but there were a lot of us and I just wanted the full cleaning done. We left handsome tips ($20 downstairs and $20 upstairs) only to return to find our tips gone and ONLY a T & T done, and a half _ssed one at that! They didn't replenish supplies, etc. I was TICKED. Spoke to a housekeeping person who said they would have a manager call me right away. To their credit they did call right away and apologized that my phone call request for a full cleaning had not been appropriately noted, thus the T & T. Or the SORT of T & T. I told the manager how upset I was that someone took $40 in tips for a T & T and then did a pitiful job of THAT. She had my GV cleaned at no charge to me but I felt terrible that the person doing our full clean didn't get the tips that were meant for them in the first place. :(
