DH and I plan to shop at DD on our last day at WDW. We are considering trying the House of Blues for lunch. Can anyone offer an opinion on the food and service here?

Thanks in advance :D !

Friend came back last Saturday. Low crowds, great service.
Lots of selection on the menu and tons of food on your plate.

Jambalya was huge and delicious-couldn't finish it.

We had dinner there about 3 weeks ago and it was great. The food was plentiful, good, and reasonably priced. Our server, Walt, could not have been nicer. Will go back on the next visit.

HOB is one of my favorites. The portions are very generous, even by Disney standards. I am a big eater, but when my DW and I ordered appetizers, salad, & entree, we were nearly FULL from the appetizer. I saw others make a whole meal just from the appetizer. HOB doesn't skimp on portions.

The service is very good. The food is delicious! The menu is very varied to provide something for everyone.

House of Blues is one of our favorite restaurants at WDW. We eat here at least once on every visit. Try the Jambalaya with an order of there rosemary cornbread it is heavenley.

We really enjoy the House of Blues. Another advantage for those travelling with older kids is to send them to Disney Quest which is just across the way while Mom and Dad enjoy a dinner alone. I recommend the Shrimp Etoufee(?) over cornbread appetizer. It is suitable for an entree. Enjoy!

While I do agree that the food (quality and quantity) and service were quite good, I did want to provide a few warnings. First, it seemed to me that a lot of the items on the menu were either very spicy or seafood based...or spicy AND seafood based. Since I don't really care for either, this was not really the best choice. Unfortunately, my mind was working a little slower than usual that day so I didn't make the very obvious connection with the restaurant's theme ("Gosh, why is there so much spicy food and seafood at the House of Blues???" Hmmmm... ). And, I didn't bother to review the menu before going, so I have nobody to blame but myself (I've learned since then! :) ).

Also, Mom of 5, you said you'd probably go for lunch, but for anyone planning on dinner, be aware that it can sometimes get very, very loud. The background music is often turned up pretty high, or there could be live music inside the restaurant. That on top of the crowds of people during peak times can be unbearable if you're sensitive to those things or are just looking for a relaxing dinner after a long day of park-hopping. However, if you're looking for great music, great food and a lively atmosphere, HOB is a good place to be!

Again, I'm not encouraging anyone to avoid HOB, just pointing out some things that may or may not be important to someone planning on dining there. Enjoy!!!

HuggaBaloo-

I'm assuming from your post that House of Blues isn't as noisy at lunch as at dinner??

Thanks,

Does HoB take PS or reservations at all? The one time we tried to eat dinner at Downtown Disney there were lines out the door at every place and we've avoided it ever since. I'd really like to try HoB before our evening at PI, though.

My family of 4 never misses a chance to eat at a HOB! Even the kids love the food!

The HOB at Disney does NOT take PS. They don't even take reservations. When we went last year there was 8 of us and even though the crowds were light we picked a "Prime eating time" and there was quite a wait. If there is a wait they'll put your name on a list but you better be there when they call your name or the table is gone.

However, it is definately worth any wait!

Since we're from Louisiana, neither "spicy" nor "seafood" are a deterrent - in fact, that's what will draw us to give HOB a shot.

As DW (Mom of 5) hasn't asked yet, I will: "Spicy" carries a wide range of meanings. (For example, we moved to Tampa for 4 yrs. On our first dining excursion, we went to an established seafood restaurant where the waitress cautioned us about the spicy blackened fish. It was ... black pepper. )

For those that know of our native Louisiana cuisine (!), does HOB match up with what we might anticipate?

Dad of 5 -

I think the shrimp po-boy is as good as the ones we had in New Orleans. We ate at Crabby Jacks and the ACME oyster house and our po-boys there were STUFFED with oysters/shrimp. Also had the misfortune to just walk into a restaurant on our first day and order the saddest, emptiest po-boy sandwiches we have ever seen! These days the only thing we order at HOB is the shrimp po-boy.

My DH loves the jambalaya at HOB. We had some great jambalaya at the Gumbo Shop in NO. I can't say that the jambalaya at HOB is as good at the dish we had at the Gumbo Shop, but it looks good (I haven't tried it yet but if DH likes it, then it's probably on par with "real" jambalaya).

Have a great trip!
