I ate lunch at House of Blue Sept 17th. They were not at all busy and the waitress sat down and talked to me for quite awhile. She told me they were starting the new menu Dec 5th. I told her my next trip was Nov 26th-Dec 4th, so I'd be missing it by one day. She told me to come by during my trip and ask if there were any chef specials, because they were going to start presenting the new items a week or so before the new menu officially began, so the servers could get used to doing the spiels about each item. She then said the new menus had not gone to the printers yet but asked if I wanted to see the new menu. She went and got a bunch of papers that were clipped together. The first page was an article about an Hispanic chef who came up with most of the dishes, then on each subsequent page they had a picture of an item and then a description of it. The menu was definitely different. There were several items with tuna on them (the ahi tuna salad looked really good), some different sliders, the ribs looked alot smaller, and the bread pudding sounded the same but will now be made in a big rectangular pan instead of the little individual dishes. There were several new items on the menus and they all looked really good. She said the wait staff was really excited about the menu changes and had tried some of them. Something else she mentioned is that the reason the menu is changing is that starting Jan 1st House of Blues will start accepting the DDP. I asked her if she was sure and she said the manager had told them the contracts had already been signed and they had no choice, and to expect a huge increase in business.
Interesting. I hope the new menu brings some improvements. HoB is near and dear to me because of some truly amazing concerts we've seen there, but I so disliked the food, we'd only eat in order to do Pass the Line. Last month we went to a concert on empty stomachs and I actually chose to spend $40 on HoB t-shirts for PTL rather than $25 on two burgers.
If it's going to be a DDP restaurant now, I wonder if the Pass the Line requirements will change? It'll certainly be a lot harder to just walk up I'm guessing.
I think they'll never get rid of the Cornbread. Since it's one of their signature dishes. And so far according to DDP 2012 House of Blues will not be on the list. Thankfully.
