House Hunters Reno vs Fixer Upper

I read an article about Fixer Upper recently that said Joanna does the final design with furniture and items from her business and the owners have the option to purchase them.

While I enjoy some of the new HGTV shows, I used to love watching Designing for the Sexes, Design on a Dime, Curb Appeal, and Decorating Cents. I wish they had reruns of those somewhere even though styles change and decor might be outdated.

The Property Brothers used to do all of their seasons in the same area but now they are moving around and doing a whole season in a different area. They recently did a season in the Austin area.

Ok, everyone, trying to remember the name of another show I used to watch quite a bit. They would go into a home that had been on the market for quite some time, have an open house and listen to the comments. Then they'd make some minor changes, re-stage, and have a new open house. The host was a young woman with long brown hair, and the designer was a red-haired guy who was built like a football player. What show was this???

I think it was Designed to Sell.

I think it was Designed to Sell.

That didn't ring a bell, so I looked it up, and it's not the one I was thinking of. But it was definitely the same concept.

I did some more digging and found the one I was thinking of: Sell This House. Tanya Memme was the host, and Roger Hazard was the designer.

There was one show that I only saw two episodes of, can't remember the name, but the show people would take a house that had been recently sold, follow the NEW owners as they redecorated or remodeled and then show a video of the renovations to the OLD owners.

The NEW owners would be saying things like "I'm soooo glad we got rid of that awful wallpaper and covered up that terrible fireplace." Then the OLD owners would sneer and say, "Well, obviously they don't understand fine design.....look what they did to that wonderful wallpaper and that beautiful fireplace we paid so much to have built." Then the show people would show the OLD owners' comments to the NEW owners and you'd hear, "Well, with the bad taste they showed in their decorating, it's no wonder that they wouldn't appreciate GOOD taste when they see it." Fur would fly and feathers would be ruffled.

I can just see the show people prepping the participants: "OK, you folks insult the kitchen and YOU folks sneer at the faux finishes and you both can complain about whether the bathrooms needed redecorating."

That was Doug's show (from Trading Spaces) called Moving up.

Oh I'm going to have to look this up. That sounds pretty funny lol.
